Carcinogen Pollutes Mountain Home AFB Tap Water Supplies

Drinking water supplies for 14 million Americans are contaminated with a cancer-causing industrial solvent made notorious by the book and film “A Civil Action,” according to a new EWG analysis of tests from public utilities nationwide. Drinking TCE-contaminated (trichloroethylene) water has been linked to birth defects; damage to the brain and the nervous, reproductive and immune systems; and increased risk of cancer. The EPA’s legal limit for TCE in drinking water is 5 parts per billion, or ppb. That limit was set in 1987, but more recent research suggests TCE could be harmful at much lower levels.

In 2015, the latest year for which comprehensive data are available, TCE was detected in EPA-mandated tests by 321 public water systems in 36 states. EWG’s Tap Water Database, which aggregates test results from utilities nationwide, shows that in about half of those systems, average annual levels of TCE were above what some health authorities say is safe for infants and developing fetuses. EWG’s interactive map shows the location of all systems with TCE contamination in 2015.

    Mountain Home Air Force Base

    • Population served: 6,500
    • TCE average: 0.58 ppb

In June 2018, the EPA released so-called problem formulation documents that refine the scope of the risk evaluations for the first batch of chemicals, including TCE, to be assessed under the recently updated TSCA law. But for TCE and three other chemicals, the EPA excluded key exposures from polluted air, water and soil from the scope of its safety assessments. This approach could dramatically underestimate the total number of Americans who are exposed to TCE and the other chemicals the agency is assessing.

People whose water is polluted with TCE can inhale the chemical during bathing, showering, washing dishes and other everyday activities. The health risk from TCE is greatest for children because of their small size – on a body weight basis, they breathe in more air and drink more water each day than older children or adults.

“The health risk from TCE is greatest for children because of their small size – on a body weight basis, they breathe in more air and drink more water each day than older children or adults.”

Levels of pollutants in the water flowing from customers’ taps fluctuate during the year, so the annual averages shown on EWG map reflect the overall level of concern for TCE contamination in a given water supply. For our calculations, we treated samples reported as “no detection” as having no TCE contamination, even though TCE may have been detected in concentrations below the minimum reporting levels required by the EPA or state agencies.

TCE exposure is particularly harmful during pregnancy and childhood. TCE exposure during pregnancy has been linked with heart malformations in the fetus. And it’s not just from drinking water: TCE volatizes from water into indoor air.

Don’t Wait For Government Action – Protect Your Family

The EPA should include exposures from all TCE uses in its safety assessment, and take immediate steps to protect American workers and communities from this dangerous chemical. The EPA should also establish a new federal drinking water standard for TCE at a level that would protect children’s health. Getting government action can take time. Treating a single TCE-contaminated water source can cost between $100,000 and $200,000 a year. For a water utility, the costs add up quickly, because TCE-removing treatment may be needed at multiple wells, and the level of TCE in a well may rise as the contaminated groundwater plume spreads. Full remediation of contaminated groundwater and installation of modern water treatment plants that can tackle contamination in the long term can cost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. Many people – especially pregnant women and families with infants or small children – may not want to wait until their public water system installs TCE treatment.

    Test and Treat at Home

TCE contamination of tap water can be remedied. Granular activated carbon and air stripping or aeration are the two most common approaches for removing TCE. But it’s expensive and the cost depends on how much the source water is contaminated and the treatment method used.

As an immediate, in-home solution, TCE can be removed from tap water with an inexpensive carbon-based filter. Minnesota health officials also recommend ventilating indoor air while bathing/showering, cooking, and while running the dishwasher or washing machine as an effective way to reduce the amounts of TCE in indoor air.

Well Water Doesn’t Make You Safer

TCE is also a serious health concern for those who depend on private wells for their drinking water supply. U.S. Geological Survey data from 2006 suggest that almost 3.5 percent of private domestic wells may be at risk of TCE contamination. Because more than 40 million Americans rely on private wells for their water, up to 1.5 million people may be affected. The actual number of private wells with TCE contamination is likely much higher because private wells aren’t tested regularly.

    EWG’s advice for families

    • If TCE is found in your water, even at levels below the federal legal limit, EWG highly recommends filtering your water. Look for a carbon-based filter that is certified to remove TCE.
    • All public water utilities are required to provide consumers with an annual Consumer Confidence Report, but these reports often don’t give the full results of tests for contaminants. You should contact your utility to learn about the full range of the most recent tests for TCE, and ask what the utility is doing to remove TCE from tap water if it is present.
    • If TCE is measured in your indoor air, contact your state health department about recommendations for ongoing monitoring or the need for a mitigation system.
    • If you have a private well, and suspect any sources of contamination or hear of TCE detections in your area, get your well tested. The This information can be helpful in deciding for which other contaminants, in addition to TCE, you may need to test.

  • The Science of Chiropractic Care, Healing without Drugs or Surgery

The Science of Chiropractic Care, Healing without Drugs or Surgery

Many people say that they are huge “believers” in Chiropractic. Others say “Oh I “don’t believe” in Chiropractic. For those of us who are dedicated to helping patients through chiropractic care, we wouldn’t categorize the practice as something we believe in or don’t believe in….Why? …Because chiropractic is not a value or a religion. Chiropractic is a scientific health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on your health.

Chiropractic services are used most often to treat neuro-musculoskeletal issues, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. The body and caring for all of its integral parts takes an army of professionals. However, if you understand how specific our bodies are designed, you will turn to a chiropractor, first, for help with most any ailment that arises.

It’s helpful to understand how the spine, nervous system and body work together for your health. The spinal cord and nerves run through the spine, a canal comprised of vertebrae and discs. The vertebrae and nerve areas of the spine are broken into segments. There are 8 neck or cervical nerves, C1-C7, 12 middle back or thoracic nerves, T1-T12, 5 lower back or lumbar nerves, L1-L5, 5 sacral nerves and 1 coccygeal nerve. The spinal cord is a pathway of nerves each designated for a particular job, either controlling an internal organ or a body function. Let’s give you an idea of how integral the spine, nervous system and body are.

The first 2 cervical nerves, C1 and C2, are responsible for the functions of the head and neck.
If you have a headache, dizziness, ear aches, tinnitus, brain fog, colds, allergies, there is likely interference in the nerves in that area.

C3 is responsible for the area of the diaphragm, and if you’re having symptoms like difficulty breathing, chronic fatigue, or anxiety, this may manifest itself as neck pain.

C4 controls the thyroid, and the source of ailments like weight gain, being cold, insomnia, swollen glands.

C5 nerve impingements can cause shoulder pain which ties to craving of sweets, tired or headachy during lags in mealtime, heart palpitations.

Drop down to T4 in your back if you’re experiencing heartburn, gall bladder issues, bloating after meals, trouble with fatty foods. You may feel upper back pain with these ailments. Even lower to L4 and L5 in your lumbar region, you may be getting knee or ankle pain, oddly a symptom of colon, prostate or uterine issues.

You get the idea. If you have an ailment, chiropractic specialists are healthcare providers that are trained to get to the root of the problem. It’s likely there is an issue relating to proper nerve transmission. We want you to be able to experience healing without drugs or surgery through the benefits of chiropractic care.

So if you believe in something, believe in the value of hard work! Believe in a higher power if you’d like to! But when it comes to belief in healthcare, would you say “I believe in medical care” or “I believe in dentists”? You probably wouldn’t find yourself saying that.

Do you believe that you have a nervous system and a spinal column? Then you need a good family chiropractor.
We “believe” you will be amazed!

BREAKING: Lawsuit Exposes Vaccine Immunity Fraud by HHS

In exchange for giving vaccine companies immunity from prosecution for adverse reaction & medical harm, the Federal government said it would take measures to monitor & improve vaccine safety. A new lawsuit by Del Bigtree shows HHS never looked at ANY safety or adverse reactions for ANY vaccine for the 31 years since they were given oversight.

“The following document comes as a result of a lawsuit filed by Robert Kennedy, Jr. against the Department of Health and Human Services. After RFK’s countless freedom of information requests were ignored, he sued HHS in an attempt to collect information on the required safety studies and licensure requirements that the HHS is commissioned to be responsible for.

These safety studies are part of the fulfillment of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 which grants legal immunity to pharmaceutical companies and vaccine makers. These safety studies were assigned to HHS in an effort to be the checks and balances over Big Pharma, because they have no liability. Additionally, HHS was also to conduct and report these findings every two years to Congress.

As you will see in the attached court ordered stipulation, THEY DID NOT DO ONE SINGLE SAFETY STUDY IN THE LAST 30 YEARS – OR – AT LEAST THEY STATE THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF ANYTHING!

ORIGINAL FILES CAN BE DOWNLOADED HERE

Many of us have seen this news about the HHS lawsuit win for Del Bigtree, ICAN, and Robert Kennedy Jr. circulate and it CONFIRMS what we already knew! What are we going to do about it?

    Class action lawsuit?

    Civil suits?

Demand Congress REPEAL the Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986?

Maybe we should send them bills and invoices for the healthcare needs of all the vaccine injured, the funeral costs and emotional damages for those who died, the bills for those living with chronic illnesses and disabilities as a result of their ineptness?

How about suing for malpractice, negligence, ignorance, complicity in this corruption and incompetence, and stop giving doctors, our government agencies, and vaccine manufacturers a free pass to poison and destroy the population.

    Really?! WHAT CAN BE DONE?

Since HHS didn’t hold up their part of the bargain and did NOT fulfill conducting any safety studies in 30 years, as a REQUIREMENT of this 1986 act, then they are in default and forfeit this act and agreement.

Send this to every legislator and person that needs to make informed choices in this area. Share far and wide! #HHSLawsuit

  • A Cup of Tea For Your Garden. How Compost Tea Could Help You Avoid Chemicals.

A Cup of Tea For Your Garden. How Compost Tea Could Help You Avoid Chemicals.

The best way to know what’s on your food is to grow your own. Mid-season the garden plants are pushed to their limits. Just as thriving plants are beginning to produce, insects and disease could arise. Instead of seeking a chemical to apply, here’s an environmental and health friendly alternative. Compost tea has beneficial, active aerobic microbes that can be applied to both soil and leaf. What are Microbes? It all goes back to the soil food web. Just put its a balance of insect and disease control and optimum plant health. Consider adding an aerobic compost tea to your garden system. Providing the garden with an astonishing number and diversity of beneficial, active, aerobic microbes will help you avoid problems such as mildews and fungus without the need to apply harmful and toxic chemicals.

    WHAT IS COMPOST TEA?

Compost tea is a great way to revive the soil food web when there’s not enough compost to go around and to establish beneficial aerobic microbes on the leaves of our plants, as well. Gardeners have been making a form of compost tea for centuries by putting a small amount of compost in a pail of water, sometimes inside a burlap sack, stirring it once in a while for a few days, and then applying that water to the soil. It’s a lot like making a cup of tea — put the tea bag in the container, add water, stir and drink. That’s tea.

There are two types of teas; Anaerobic (no oxygen) and aerobic. The difference is the length and intensity of the benefits it provides.

    Anaerobic tea:

Gardeners add “foods” to the tea to wake up the microbes, but in doing this then they use up more oxygen, and the tea can quickly go anaerobic (no oxygen). Immature compost may also make an anaerobic tea. Anaerobic tea may have its particular uses, but it will be mainly composed of anaerobic bacteria and yeasts, not unusually diverse, and lacking aerobic microbes like fungi, protists, and many bacteria. We want the aerobic tea to restore more of the beneficial microbes.Bubbling air through the water with some kind of air pump and adding specific foods to feed and multiply the microbes produces aerated compost tea. This system can extract and increase an astonishing number and diversity of beneficial, active, aerobic microbes. The goal is aerobes (aerobic organisms), because they’re generally the beneficial ones. Excellent compost tea can contain as many as 100 trillion bacteria per 0.03 oz. (1 ml).

Could Disease Controlled with Compost Tea instead of Pesticides/Herbicides?

    • One primary benefit of compost tea in disease control is the ability actually inoculate the leaves of our plants, something we can’t do with compost. With more experience, a gardener can also get fancy and brew specific teas for specific circumstances. A brew a tea to combat powdery mildew on grapes, or a tea to alter the microbial population in soil to allow the food grower to establish an orchard.
    • Compost tea can’t be marketed as a pesticide and people have found themselves in legal trouble for doing so, but of course, it can help to control some plant predators because that’s what beneficial microbes do.
    • There has been some excellent research on compost tea, mostly on a larger scale.
    • Vineyards have achieved good control of mildews and even been able to harvest their grapes several weeks early, giving them a head start on wine making.

Food growers have controlled diseases and documented many other benefits for plant health. Golf courses and parks have reduced pesticide, chemical fertilizer, and water use, substantially lowering costs while creating healthier turf.

Harvard University has been using compost tea for 10 years. (See their article)

They did a one-acre test of mostly turf in 2008 using compost, compost tea, mycorrhizal fungi, humic acids, liquid kelp, and organic fertilizer. Compared to the control, root growth was two times greater and nitrogen produced was three to four times greater.

    • They were able to mow 50% less, presumably because there wasn’t such a big hit of nitrogen and other chemical fertilizers all at once which often produces green grass and fast growth, but eventually causes problems.
    • Cut water use by 30% and that was expected to increase to 50% for a savings of two million gallons a year. Apparently, all 16 acres at Harvard are now organic.

In some gardens, one application of compost tea has cleared out plant predators overnight and perked the plants up as if it was exactly what they needed. In other gardens, a few applications have been necessary, and in other gardens, not much change was noticed. Part of gardening is trial and error, and the joy is in finding the solution.

    Making Compost Tea

    from Phil the Smiling Gardener

To make a good tea, you need to get a lot of factors right — air pressure, water quantity, size of the air bubbles, amount and types of compost and microbes foods, and on and on.

That means you either need to purchase a quality brewer that has been thoroughly tested and has the data to support that, or build your own and test and tweak it until you get it right.

The first option may cost you at least a couple hundred dollars for a five-gallon brewer, but that’s actually cheaper than the testing that needs to be done to build your own properly.

    DIY aerobic compost tea

Aerobic Compost Tea it’s made by pumping air through water that contains a small amount of compost along with foods for aerobic microbes to multiply. Here’s an example brewer. This takes one to five days to make.

    1. You start with a small amount of exceptionally good, aerobic, fully finished compost. Finished compost should look like rich, black soil, without any visible chunks of whatever went into it (except for things like egg shells which break down very slowly).

    TIPS:

    • A mixture of two or three different composts is even better. Using different composts will bring more microbial diversity, and you can also throw in a small amount of healthy soil.
    • If you want to promote a fungal tea, perhaps to establish an orchard or shrub garden or strawberries, use compost that was made with a lot of woody material and still contains a small amount of woody material.
    • Even better, mix some oatmeal or oat bran into the compost a few days before you brew at three tablespoons per cup of compost. Keep this moist, dark and warm at 75F (25C) to promote fungal growth. For a bacterial tea, go for a less woody compost.

    2. Add compost to a mesh bag or directly into a bucket of clean (filtered non-chlorinated), room temperature water. Don’t use irrigation water, chemical run-off and chemigation (specifically added chemicals directly to irrigation water) could destroy the beneficial microbes you are seeking. *If you use city water, you need to let that bucket of water sit out for 24 hours for the chlorine to dissipate, or you can turn your air pump on for 20 minutes instead, and that also does the trick.

    3. Your pump will blow air through tubes that are in the bottom of the bucket, the tubes attached with waterproof tape or weighed down somehow. The air goes through the water and compost, keeping the environment aerobic to favor the aerobic microbes, and physically pulling them off the compost.

    TIPS

At the beginning of the brewing process add :

    • Examples of right microbe foods include molasses, kelp, fish, humic acids and rock dust. Obviously, these products should not have preservatives in them, because preservatives are designed to kill microbes.
    • Molasses, other sugars, fruit juice and kelp, promote more bacteria growth. Fish, seed meals, humic acids, yucca and rock dust, encourage more fungal growth.

At the end of the brewing process add:

Extracts from the yucca plant can be used as a biostimulant and wetting agent., which is added at the end., these are all added at the beginning of the brewing process. Mycorrhizal fungi can be added at the end of the brewing process if you’re making a soil application.

RECIPE for a five-gallon homemade brewer:
    2 cups finished compost,
    1 Tablespoon unsulfured blackstrap molasses,
    1 Tablespoon liquid kelp,
1 teaspoon liquid fish to 5 gallons of clean water.

    Brew for 2-3 days.

If you use a purchased brewer, they often use less compost. You may be able to buy excellent compost from the brewer manufacturer and a mixture of the microbe foods too.

Compost tea needs to be used as soon as possible after you make it because not long after that pump goes off, the oxygen in the water drops rapidly. It can be used for eight hours, but the sooner, the better. When possible use within one hour of its being ready.

Application method of applying it is to strain it through nylon or cheesecloth into a quality backpack sprayer, such as those made by Solo. This allows me to spray a mist at 60 psi and thoroughly coat both sides of the leaves of all of my plants. A watering can will suffice for soil applications, but some kind of spray is best.

A hose-end sprayer would work, but that water is coming through the hose often has chlorine in it, and it’s frigid. I’d instead not shock my microbes like that.

For foliar applications, which is the primary method of application you’ll do, you’ll generally spray compost tea undiluted at 1 pint per 1,000 square feet, which means a good quality five-gallon brew can do about an acre.

It doesn’t hurt to do more than that, though. You could spray your five gallons on a few thousand square feet and that’s just fine.

    TREES

Of course, if you have tall trees, you’ll need more. The rule is 1 pint per 1,000 square feet for every six feet of tree height you have. If your trees are 12 feet tall, you need one quart. Don’t dilute the foliar sprays because you want the maximum number of microbes on the leaf surface as possible.

  • Teflon Chemicals Bigger Health Threat Than Previously Disclosed

Teflon Chemicals Bigger Health Threat Than Previously Disclosed

Chemicals used for decades in hundreds of consumer products – including DuPont’s Teflon and 3M’s Scotchgard – are hazardous for human health and for the environment. PFOA and its cousin, PFOS, never break down in the environment. They build up in people’s bodies, and can be passed from mother to child in the womb and though breast milk.By the 1970s, DuPont and 3M had used them to develop Teflon and Scotchgard, and they slipped into an array of everyday products, from gum wrappers to sofas to frying pans to carpets. Known as perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, they were a boon to the military, too, which used them in foam that snuffed out explosive oil and fuel fires.

It’s long been known that, in certain concentrations, the compounds could be dangerous if they got into water or if people breathed dust or ate food that contained them. Tests showed they accumulated in the blood of chemical factory workers and residents living nearby, and studies linked some of the chemicals to cancers and birth defects.

Now two new analyses of drinking water data and the science used to analyze it make clear the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Defense have downplayed the public threat posed by these chemicals. Far more people have likely been exposed to dangerous levels of them than has previously been reported because contamination from them is more widespread than has ever been officially acknowledged.

Moreover, ProPublica has found, the government’s understatement of the threat appears to be no accident. The EPA and DOD have quite deliberately chosen not to use the most advanced tools or to collect the most comprehensive data on contamination, researchers say.

The EPA and the Department of Defense calibrated water tests to exclude some harmful levels of contamination and only register especially high concentrations of chemicals, according to the vice president of one testing company. Several prominent scientists told ProPublica the DOD chose to use tests that would identify only a handful of chemicals rather than more advanced tests that the agencies’ own scientists had helped develop which could potentially identify the presence of hundreds of additional compounds.

“If you were going to spend $200 million testing DoD sites across the country, wouldn’t you want to test for all of the chemicals you know you used?” asked Jane Williams, executive director of California Communities Against Toxics, who has been active on chemical cleanup issues at Defense sites.

“It’s almost like a deliberate thing, where you’re going to tell people their water is safe to drink, and you know that you have a gap in your testing and you know that you haven’t found all of the chemicals in the water.” The new analyses suggest these findings likely represent just a fraction of the true number of people and drinking water systems affected.

Scientists are only now beginning to understand the importance of the information the government is choosing to leave out. Field has found, for example, not only that there are more variations of PFAS compounds, but that some degrade over time into PFOS or PFOA, or, like PFBS, travel faster in the environment, making them predictors for other contaminants soon to come.

“Widespread contamination may be harming the health of millions or even tens of millions of Americans and the government is intentionally covering up some of the evidence,” said Erik Olson, a senior director for health, food and agriculture initiatives at the Natural Resources Defense Council, in an interview. The EPA and Defense Department “have done all they can to sort of drag their feet and avoid meaningful regulatory action in making significant investment in cleanups.”
