  • Spiders away with peppermint spray

A wolf spider made its way across the bathroom floor like she owned the place. I don’t know about you but we sure are finding a lot of creepy crawly spiders in our house. We love visitors in our super cool home but NOT these visitors.  I needed to find a way to get these little guys to stay away and BE GONE but I wanted to do it without chemicals.

    Homemade Non-Toxic Spider Repellent
    What you will need:
    Spray Bottle
    15 dropsPeppermint Oil
1 tsp Dish Soap (free and clear)
    Adorable Spider Repellent printable
    Directions:
    1.  Add tsp of free and clear dish soap to the spray bottle.
    2.  Add 15 drops of peppermint oil to the spray bottle.
    3.  Fill the rest of the bottle with water.
    4.  Shake carefully to completely combine mixture.
    5.  Add free spider repellent printable to bottle.
    6.  Spray the Spider Repellent along the edges of your home.  Finding cracks that they may want to come in through.  Remember – since this is an all natural spray you can spray outside of your home as well as inside your home.

METHOD 1: How To Deter Spiders Naturally With Vinegar & Peppermint Oil

Here’s how we did it – get some white vinegar and some peppermint oil; mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water, and then add around 20 drops of peppermint oil.

Add the mixture to a spray bottle, shake like crazy and then spray around windows, doors, air ducts and anywhere else you think spiders may be entering your home. Another thing you can do if you have lots of air vents or holes in your walls/floors is to soak some cotton balls in the mixture, and place them in the ducts and holes etc.

If you do this once a week, you’ll notice a dramatic reduction in the numbers of spiders entering your home. We tend to have a big tidy up and vacuum once a week or so, and we just sprayed when we did this, it just became part of the routine.

    • Spiders do not like peppermint oil which means if you put this barrier around your home the smell will send them away!!  Spiders Be Gone!
    • This will also work for mice and other small insects.
    • Use as the weather turns cold to detour them from your home.
    • All Natural!  Pet Safe!  Kid Safe!
    • Smells lovely!

METHOD 2: How To Kill Spiders With Diatomaceous Earth

( ***Also works for ants, cockroaches, and fleas***)

Firstly, to clarify things, bugs are great when they live outdoors, they serve an important and vital purpose in nature.  This post is intended for people who have a home infestation or a phobia of spiders etc.  Outside I say live and let live, but if you have bedbugs, fleas or cockroaches etc invading your home, in and around your food and kids, it’s a different matter.

What if I told you there is a natural product that will get rid of ALL of the above?  In fact, it will kill any bug with an exoskeleton, so that covers most of the other bugs we don’t like too. This product is 100% natural, non-toxic to humans and mammals, and safe to use around kids and pets, it’s also inexpensive. Want to know what it is? It’s called Diatomaceous EarthDiatomaceous Earth (sometimes called diatomite) is the fossilized remains of hard-shelled algae (known as diatoms). It is 100% natural and looks like an off-white talc powder.

How does it work and where to use it

The way it works is simple – diatomaceous earth sticks to the bugs and absorbs the lipids from their exoskeleton which causes them to quickly die through dehydration. Most, apart from beetles, will die within 24 hours.

To get rid of all these critters from your home, simply sprinkle the DE powder in the places where they are getting into your home and hiding. Some of the best places to use it are around doorways, windows, and air ducts – and sprinkle it under all of your furniture. You can also use diatomaceous earth directly on ants‘ nests if they are too close to the house. Whether you use it indoors or out, it is vital that you keep DE dry as it becomes ineffective when it gets wet.

  • Detoxification 101

Because we live in a world that is replete with harmful toxins due to pollution and chemicals being released constantly into our food supply, water, air and soil, some assistance in keeping our bodies’ detoxification systems running smoothly is necessary.

Our bodies are in a constant state of detoxification. The digestive (liver), respiratory, lymphatic, circulatory, urinary systems, our skin (sweat), and kidneys continually eliminate toxins to keep us healthy. These organ systems can become easily compromised when our bodies are overburdened with too many toxins.

Natural ways to detoxify our bodies can help keep us healthy through fall and winter months, and year round. If you are a parent of a vaccine-injured child, these recommendations can help begin a regimen of detoxification from harmful substances that may have produced symptoms and left your child’s health compromised. The following are some natural ways to assist your body in eliminating the harmful substances you encounter in everyday life and activity.

    Dietary considerations

Switch from processed and conventional foods to organic and natural products. Look for produce without pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers and those not produced with genetically-modified seeds. If in doubt, ask a store employee.

When purchasing animal foods, look for antibiotic, hormone and GMO-free products. Grassfed and pasture-raised are optimal for beef, lamb, dairy products, eggs, and poultry. More information: Eat Wild from author Jo Robinson.

Raw dairy foods are optimal because the milk has not been treated under high heat conditions which compromise the integrity of important nutrients such as fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K2, Omega 3s, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), B Vitamins and minerals. Healthy animals on pasture produce milk that doesn’t need pasteurization because ideal bacterial balance is achieved when grazing animals consume their natural diets with exposure to sun. Raw dairy is by design less susceptible to pathogenic contamination than its pasteurized counterpart due to the presence of probiotic bacteria and antimicrobial enzymes. More information: Chris Kresser, Real Milk.

Why is organic and locally sourced so important?

A body that is nourished with real, organic foods can detoxify itself and absorb nutrients more efficiently. If you buy from a store, as much as possible, shop in the organic section. If you shop at farmer’s markets or buy direct from the farm, ask questions about growing practices used. Purchasing food from local growers gives the consumer more control and transparency over how the food purchased is produced.

Eliminate the following from your kitchen:

Vegetable oils such as canola, soybean, cottonseed, corn, or safflower oil. These are relatively new to the world of “food products” and were practically non-existent prior to the 1900s. Polyunsaturated oils and are high in Omega 6s, which are too abundant in the Standard American Diet. Too many Omega 6s contribute to disease and inflammation. These oils are typically produced via industrial mechanisms under high heat processing. High heat processing damages fragile Omega 6-based oils. By the time you would use these for cooking, they are already rancid.

Canola, soybean, corn and cottonseed oils are sourced from crops that are largely genetically-modified. Genetic alterations to food have been linked to various chronic health conditions including liver damage, cancer, infertility, food allergies and intolerances. Learn more about the dangers of GMOs (genetically-modified organisms) from The Institute for Responsible Technology

    Replace with:

Real, traditional fats: organic olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and palm oil (if sourced from sustainable practices; check the label or contact the manufacturer if in doubt). Extra virgin olive and coconut oil is recommended.

Real, traditional animal fats include organic, grassfed or pasture-raised beef, pork, poultry, and game meat fats, or wild game. Saturated fats are ideal for cooking and add important nutrients and flavor to recipes. Contrary to conventional advice, real traditional fats sourced carefully do not cause heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure or stroke, and have been consumed around the world by our ancestors for thousands and thousands of years and have supported human health. Studies showing that animal foods and saturated fats are harmful to health typically only take into consideration conventional products sourced from animals raised in confinement. These products are vastly different than their natural counterparts, are not health-supporting, and are to be avoided. For more information on the value of traditional diets in the role of human health, read Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Dr. Weston A. Price, DDS, and Pottenger’s Cats by Dr. Francis Marion Pottenger, M.D.

White flour and any processed grain product

These products are problematic for the following reasons:

    1) They are typically sourced from conventional farming environments which apply the herbicide Roundup to wheat fields. Roundup contains glyphosate, an active ingredient shown to interfere with detoxification in the immune and digestive tracts. Read more from the research of Stephanie Seneff, PhD and Anthony Samsel, PhD here

    2) White flour and processed grains have had nutrients removed and chemicals added for ease of processing. Traditionally prepared, organic grains are easier on the digestive tract. Traditional preparation involves soaking, soaking, sprouting and fermenting flour and grains to render them more easily digestible, as our ancestors have done for thousands of years.

However, some choose to eliminate grains altogether due to sensitivities and toxins found in the majority of grains, and due to chronic health issues which can be exacerbated by grains, even when organic and properly prepared. A diet of real, nourishing foods and gentle detoxification as described in this article can heal the body so that real, organic grains that are traditionally prepared can be consumed once again. This process can take some time to accomplish: months to years. Choose accordingly depending on your health goals and condition.

    Refined sugar

White sugar and processed carbohydrates can be problematic because they contribute to lowered immune system function and inflammation in the body. Reduce the amount of sweeteners used and replace with natural sweeteners including organic raw honey, organic maple syrup, organic cane sugar and organic coconut sugar. When starting a detox regimen, removing sugar in general is typically recommended for a period of time which can last for weeks, months, or years, depending on your individual health needs and considerations.

Ways to encourage gentle, ongoing detox:

There are some ways to detox regularly that can help your body regain nutrients needed for optimal health while supporting your body to enable elimination of harmful toxins that may be affecting your well-being.

    Herbal liver support

A liver tincture made from herbs can be extremely healing to the liver, the largest detoxification organ besides the skin on our bodies. This specially created tinture of organic herbs includes dandelion root, chanca piedra, greater celandine, milk thistle seed, turmeric, burdock root, boldo root, and peppermint. It is beneficial for fatty liver disease, hepatitis and hepatic toxicity, liver stones and congestion in the liver which all contribute to chronic health issues.

    Vitamin C

This nutrient is an important antioxidant and is extremely effective in eliminating and counteracting damage from toxins and heavy metals that become stored in the body. An optimal form of Vitamin C is liposomal because it is easily absorbed since it contains important nutrient co-factors used by the body for digestion. High doses of Vitamin C are beneficial in helping the body to heal from various health issues including viruses, bacteria, and fungal, and also other chronic or degenerative challenges including auto-immune disease, heart and respiratory disease, digestive disorders and cancer.  Read more about how Vitamin C can benefit conditions involving cancer here

    Epsom or magnesium salt baths

Soaking in mineral rich baths can help counteract the effects of toxins including halides such as chlorine, fluoride, and bromine, and heavy metals such as aluminum and mercury. Epsom and magnesium salts can be purchased at health food stores and are ideal for everyday or weekly detox. They are relaxing, soothing and helpful in removing unwanted substances that build up in the body. Epsom and magnesium salts also help replete the body with important minerals such as magnesium and other trace minerals.

A bath environment is most beneficial when filtered water, which removes impurities and toxins that can contribute to health issues. For recommended water filtering products, see Drink filtered water below.

    Clay baths

Clay baths are effective to help our bodies eliminate built-up toxins such as heavy metals and others that can harm our health. Enviromedica has some excellent products with natural clay that you can use in your home bath for a relaxing and detoxing bath experience. These kinds of baths are potent and typically cause fatigue after use. Taking a quality probiotic supplement or consuming fermented beverages and organic, herbal teas such as ginger or peppermint afterward and immediately retiring to bed to allow replenishment and rest are recommended. See Fermented foods and beverages below for recommendations. Recommended probiotic supplements include Prescript Assist, Klaire Labs and GutPro probiotic supplements

    Magnesium oil

Applying magnesium oil “transdermally” via the skin is an easy way to absorb this mineral. Our skin can absorb substances more efficiently than our digestive tracts, especially if there is compromise or toxicity present.

Magnesium supplements can be problematic for a variety of people as they tend to cause diarrhea. Magnesium is essential for brain and nervous system function, digestion, hormonal, cardiovascular, bone and many other aspects of health. This specially developed formula of magnesium oil made with magnesium flakes and non-GMO grain alcohol is highly absorbent and unlike other types of magnesium oil, doesn’t itch or burn the skin. Use this oil daily (several times if desired) to help with stress, brain and nervous system support, digestive ailments including constipation and abdominal cramping, anxiety, mood, and sleep.

    Make bone broth

Mineral rich broths made from the bones of animals and birds raised on pasture are healing for the digestive tract and replenishing of important amino acids and minerals which support brain, nervous system, and detoxification. This is one of the foundation foods mentioned in Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride’s book Gut and Psychology Syndrome, or the GAPS Diet. Many people have found healing and needed detoxification from this dietary protocol. This diet is especially healing for children with autism, ADD/ADHD, learning, speech, and communication disorders, dyspraxia, dyslexia and other psychological disorders.

If you are sensitive to glutamates in bone broth, preparing meat stock can be a safe alternative. Instead of bones, you would use meat or poultry to prepare stock, which requires less cooking time than broth. For more information on this topic, visit Monica Corrado’s site, Simply Being Well

    Drink filtered water

A likely source of contaminants is tap and bottled water which can contain lead, cadmium, arsenic, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, pesticide, herbicide and pharmaceutical residue. All contribute to toxicity and chronic health issues. Recommended filtration systems include Berkey countertop filters and Radiant Life under-the-sink filtration and whole house purification systems.

    Consume fermented foods and beverages

These easy-to-digest, mineral-rich traditional foods contain important nutrients including

Vitamins A, D, E, K2, B and C, minerals, enzymes and friendly bacteria (probiotics). These elements not only boost immunity and digestion function, but also support overall health by increasing the amount of available nutrients in food.

Making your own fermented foods at home is optimal since you always know what you are putting in your own preparations. These are also typically less expensive than store-bought. However, many health food stores now offer some excellent products if you aren’t in a position to make your own including: sauerkraut, pickles, and other fermented vegetable combinations.

Some health food stores now offer raw and pasture-raised cultured dairy foods such as yogurt, kefir, sour cream and cream cheese. Lesser recommended would be pasteurized cultured dairy foods which are more difficult to digest since enzymes and proteins are compromised during the heating process. These typically contain less beneficial bacteria than their raw counterparts.

Fermented teas such as kombucha, water kefir, and vegetable juices are also available and beneficial. These mineral and probiotic-rich beverages can be a healthy part of your diet and support for detox. All kombucha and kefir is prepared with some type of tea and sugar as the SCOBY mother (kombucha) and water kefir grains consume them to allow propagation of more bacteria. However, store-bought kombucha and water kefir tend to be much sweeter than homemade, and can also contain unwanted additives.

Although the fermentation process can help neutralize effects of caffeine in tea on the body, some people find they are still sensitive. If you don’t know whether you are sensitive, try a bottle of organic, store bought kombucha to test (or homemade from a friend). Some find that they need to avoid drinking kombucha tea no later than 2 p.m. during the day due to its “awakening” and energizing effects, which can affect sleep cycles. Be sure to always check labels and look for organic and if you purchase a store-bought brand.

Always read the label carefully and choose organic whenever possible that contain only salt and vegetables/herbs for fermented produce (not vinegar). When choosing cultured dairy foods look for whole milk products (not skim or low-fat, which reduces essential nutrients in dairy foods) and which contain no additives such as modified food starch, sugar, or others you may not recognize or can’t pronounce.

  • Music, Mood and Well-being

HFI Teens: Music can make you more stressful or calm anxiety, knowing that certain kinds of music can alleviate stress is one thing; being mindful in choosing what kind of music to listen to is another. Our advice: choose your musical intake as carefully as you choose your food and friends.

Music’s beneficial effects on mental health have been known for thousands of years. Ancient philosophers from Plato to Confucius and the kings of Israel sang the praises of music and used it to help soothe stress. Military bands use music to build confidence and courage. Sporting events provide music to rouse enthusiasm. Schoolchildren use music to memorize their ABCs. Shopping malls play music to entice consumers and keep them in the store. Dentists play music to help calm nervous patients. Modern research supports conventional wisdom that music benefits mood and confidence.

Because of our unique experiences, we develop different musical tastes and preferences. Despite these differences, there are some common responses to music. Babies love lullabies. Maternal singing is particularly soothing, regardless of a mom’s formal musical talents or training. Certain kinds of music make almost everyone feel worse, even when someone says she enjoys it; in a study of 144 adults and teenagers who listened to 4 different kinds of music, grunge music led to significant increases in hostility, sadness, tension, and fatigue across the entire group, even in the teenagers who said they liked it. In another study, college students reported that pop, rock, oldies, and classical music helped them feel happier and more optimistic, friendly, relaxed, and calm.

    Music, Attention, and Learning

Everyone who has learned their ABCs knows that it is easier to memorize a list if it is set to music. Scientific research supports common experience that pairing music with rhythm and pitch enhances learning and recall. Music helps children and adolescents with attention problems in several ways. First, it can be used as a reward for desired behavior. For example, for paying attention to homework for 10 minutes, a child can be rewarded with the opportunity to listen to music for 5 minutes. Second, it can be used to help enhance attention to “boring” academic tasks such as memorization, using songs, rhythms, and dance or movement to enhance the interest of the lists to be memorized. Instrumental baroque music is great for improving attention and reasoning. For students, playing background music is not distracting. Third, musical cues can be used to help organize activities – one kind of music for one activity (studying), another for a different activity (eating), and a third kind for heading to bed. Fourth, studies show that calming music can promote pro-social behavior and decrease impulsive behavior.

    Music and Anxiety

Many people find familiar music comforting and calming. In fact, music is so effective in reducing anxiety, it is often used in dental, preoperative, and radiation therapy settings to help patients cope with their worries about procedures. Music helps decrease anxiety in the elderly, new mothers, and children too. Music’s ability to banish worries is illustrated in the Rogers and Hammerstein lyrics,

“Whenever I feel afraid, I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune, so no one will suspect I’m afraid…
    And every single time,
the happiness in the tune convinces me that I’m not afraid.”

Any kind of relaxing, calming music can contribute to calmer moods. Calming music can be combined with cognitive therapy to lower anxiety even more effectively than conventional therapy alone.

Some studies suggest that specially designed music, such as music that includes tones that intentionally induce binaural beats to put brain waves into relaxed delta or theta rhythms, can help improve symptoms in anxious patients even more than music without these tones; listening to this music without other distractions (not while driving, cooking, talking, or reading) promotes the best benefits.

    Music and Moods

An analysis of 5 studies on music for depression concluded that music therapy is not only acceptable for depressed patients, but it actually helps improve their moods. Music has proven useful in helping patients with serious medical illnesses such as cancer, burns, and multiple sclerosis who are also depressed. If it can help in these situations, it may be able to help you and your loved ones experience more positive moods.

  • Protect Babies From Life-Threatening Sepsis with Probiotics

Sepsis is essentially blood poisoning, often brought on by dysfunctional immune response that allows infections to progress to the point of extremely low blood pressure, weakening of the heart and multiple organ failure and death. Almost half of the 1 million Americans that get sepsis die from it, and globally, around 600,000 infants die from the disease.

Drug-resistant infections are becoming more prevalent and while antibiotics can’t fight the battle, probiotics actually can make a world of difference.

New research from rural India (abstract, article)  reveals that feeding newborns probiotics can significantly lower their chances of developing sepsis. Amazingly, a common lactic acid bacteria found in fermented sauerkraut and kimchi (Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC-202195) has proven very successful. This particular strain not only colonized infant guts successfully, but it also remained in their intestinal tarct for up to four months. When the prebiotic fructooligosaccharide is added to promote the growth and colonization of the strain, the results are even better. Costs are minimal too, at just $1 per 7-day treatment course.

With around 40% of infants contracting sepsis in the Odisha state of India, the probiotic course reduced sepsis risk and death by 40%, to 5.4%. Because the study was so successful, they stopped the study short of its goal of treating 8,000 infants, and decided to just treat all infants with this life-saving probiotic + prebiotic mix.

    More powerful than drugs?

Indian researchers noted that probiotics may be more powerful than drugs because:

    • They help control harmful bacteria that could overtake a baby’s intestines
    • They generate compounds that strengthen the intestinal wall, thus preventing harmful bacteria from etnering the bloodstream
    • They promote healthier maturation of the baby’s immune system

This study is a great reminder of the power of food-based probiotics and prebiotics, and for alternative ways of dealing with life-threatening infections.

  • School Officials Violate Idaho Code Deny School To Kindergartener

IDAHO IMMUNIZATION EXEMPTION. A child was denied access to school as school officials violate Idaho Code 39-4802 and 39-4804. The form created by the Health and Welfare Department (per IDAPA rule) has been required by the school, unaltered, thereby violating several clearly defined statutes. The Health and Welfare department is well aware that the form falls outside the scope and intent of the law. (See SB 1050)Clearly the State Health and Welfare Department and the West Ada County school officials are attempting to bully parents who legally invoke their immunization exemption.

  • Chronic disease linked to the use of everyday plastic products

A new study has added to the mounting pile of evidence that phthalates in plastic food packaging can cause chronic disease. Researchers from the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and the University of Adelaide have further substantiated these findings.

In this recent study, about 1,500 male participants were assessed for phthalates in their systems. Urine samples revealed that a staggering 99.6 percent of the subjects had phthalates in their bodies at significant levels.

Phthalates in plastic food packaging linked with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure

Even just traces of phthalates can cause a number of different health problems. The researchers suspect these phthalates come from exposure to plastic food packaging, which is used in a high percentage of the processed food items on store shelves today.

Some of the top forms of illness and chronic disease linked with phthalates in plastic food packaging include type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. The presence of phthalates is strongly linked with eating foods that have been packaged and stored in plastic bottles and containers.

Sadly, the typical Western diet is still heavy based on processed foods that are stored in plastic food packaging. Previous studies have already shown a link between prepackaged foods, high phthalate levels and chronic disease.

Phthalates impede vitamin D synthesis, which can pave the way for chronic disease

In addition to processed and packaged foods on store shelves, phthalates have also been found in fast foods. They are used in the processing and sale of personal care products such as cosmetics, lotions and medical tubes. Phthalates have been linked with hormone disruption as well as blockage of vitamin D synthesis, which is crucial to immune system health.

A 2016 study assessing U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data and published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that persons exposed to phthalates in large amounts tended to have lower levels of vitamin D in their bloodstreams than those with less exposure. Phthalates, EDCs and BPAs seem to alter vitamin D in negative ways.

So what are the alternatives? Packaging design experts from Skipping Rocks Lab out of London in the UK has created what they call “edible water balls,” or consumable plastic packaging that eliminates the need for storing and packaging drinking water in plastic bottles. A team of German experts has created biodegradable, leaf-derived plates and cutlery as a substitute for plastic versions.  But, these ideas ignore a simple truth …

Avoid food stored in plastic food packaging whenever possible

Consumers can push for the design and use of non-plastic, biodegradable packaging alternatives with their favorite food manufacturers. But, even better, we ought to focus on non-processed food choices – as much as possible.

In other words, we simply have to change our buying habits.  This includes buying local and organic vegetables, fruits and 100% grass-fed meats, plus more cooking at home to avoid ‘packaged foods’ altogether.  Of course, if we need to carry our food with us, we can invest in a stainless steel or glass container – when needed,

When storing or carrying water for any length of time, use a glass jar or bottle – instead of plastic.  These are just a few simple suggestions to help you live a ‘plastic-free’ life.  To your health!

This recipe makes about 6oz. Mix all ingredients well. Enjoy!
1 Tbs. Baking Powder (Aluminum free, no one wants toxic metals in the bloodstream)
6 Tbs. Coconut Oil (fights plaque, draws toxins out)
4 Tbs. Bentonite Clay (pulls toxins and heavy metals out, help re-mineralize teeth safely in place of fluoride)
8 to 9 capsules Activated Charcoal (whitens teeth, as strange as that sounds since it is black, and also helps removing plaque)
doTERRA Essential Oils (This can be based on what you like. For this recipe, I used 10 drops Peppermint, 8 drops On-Guard. Some other good choices would be Cinnamon, Spearmint, and/or Clove)
Optional: If you like your toothpaste to have a little sweetness to it if it seems too dry, then add a few drops of Stevia. Stevia is a safe natural sweetener without the bad stuff that comes from artificial sweeteners. I use Organic Stevia drops from Trader Joe’s.

  • School Officials Discriminate: Deny Kinder Enrollment with legal immunization exemption

    https://hfi.designbyparrish.com/west-ada-county-school-officials-violate-idaho-statute-discriminate-against-a-family-deny-kinder-enrollment

West Ada County School Officials violate Idaho Statute. Discriminate against a family. Deny kinder enrollment. Sara's son was denied enrollment today, August 23, 2017, by school officials in a West Ada County school on his very first day of kindergarten.

The school officials violated Idaho Statute 39-4802 by refusing to accept the parent's written statement of objection to immunizations on religious grounds.
    Idaho Statute reads as follows:
    (1) Any minor child whose parent or guardian has submitted to school officials a certificate signed by a physician licensed by the state board of medicine stating that the physical condition of the child is such that all or any of the required immunizations would endanger the life or health of the child shall be exempt from the provisions of this chapter.
    (2) Any minor child whose parent or guardian has submitted a signed statement to school officials stating their objections on religious or other grounds shall be exempt from the provisions of this chapter.

Regardless of the principal's personal opinion on vaccinations, schools MUST adhere to the State statute. Instead of giving families a form to write the exemption statement, per the law, IDHW forces parents to sign an incriminating form with verbiage that is totally inappropriate and violates the right to medical privacy. It is not required by law and parents don't want to use it. By law, they don't have to.

  • Medical School Professors Are Also PAID Consultants to Drug Companies

    03medschool.1.600.jpg

Harvard Medical School students like Kirsten Austad, left; Lekshmi Santhosh, Kim Sue and David Tian, members of the American Medical Student Association, object to the influence of drug companies in the schools educational curriculum.
Jodi Hilton for The New York Times

BOSTON — In a first-year pharmacology class at Harvard Medical School, Matt Zerden grew wary as the professor promoted the benefits of cholesterol drugs and seemed to belittle a student who asked about side effects.

Mr. Zerden later discovered something by searching online that he began sharing with his classmates. The professor was not only a full-time member of the Harvard Medical faculty, but a paid consultant to 10 drug companies, including five makers of cholesterol treatments.

“I felt really violated,” Mr. Zerden, now a fourth-year student, recently recalled. “Here we have 160 open minds trying to learn the basics in a protected space, and the information he was giving wasn’t as pure as I think it should be.”

Mr. Zerden’s minor stir four years ago has lately grown into a full-blown movement by more than 200 Harvard Medical School students and sympathetic faculty, intent on exposing and curtailing the industry influence in their classrooms and laboratories, as well as in Harvard’s 17 affiliated teaching hospitals and institutes.

They say they are concerned that the same money that helped build the school’s world-class status may in fact be hurting its reputation and affecting its teaching.

The students argue, for example, that Harvard should be embarrassed by the F grade it recently received from the American Medical Student Association, a national group that rates how well medical schools monitor and control drug industry money.
