  • CDC School Reopening Guideline Impacts Idaho

No field trips. No playground. No community lunches. No assemblies. Everyone wears a mask- at all times. Daily temperature checks of staff and students, social distancing, follow proper prevention hygiene, such as washing your hands frequently and using alcohol-based (at least 60% alcohol) hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.

    Physical distancing suggestions:

    • Space seating/desks at least 6 feet apart when feasible.
    • Turn desks to face in the same direction (rather than facing each other), or have students sit on only one side of tables, spaced apart.
    • Create distance between children on school buses (g., seat children one child per row, skip rows) when possible

These are some of the CDC’s guidelines for reopening schools.

TELL OUR SUPERINTENDENTS OF EDUCATION THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR OUR CHILDREN! (see email list at the bottom of this article)

The CDC does not have the authority to enforce its guidance, which is intended for public information only; the actual policy decisions are up to state and local governments. Our state school board and the Idaho Health and Welfare Department closely follow the CDC guidelines and implement them as rules for daycares and schools.

Today the West Ada County district sent out a survey to parents regarding some of these CDC recommendations and how they will handle COVID 19 and reopening schools. One of the questions is would parents feel more comfortable sending their kids back to school under selected conditions a few of those include students and staff masks, mandatory temperature screening of students and staff and many more.

It is imperative we tell our school, and make our voices heard.

Tell the Superintendents that you do not want your child in this type of environment!

    QUESTIONS TO ASK:

    • Are these recommendations reasonable and healthy for our children?
    • Consider the decrease of oxygen and increase of toxic cleaners in their environment?
    • How will this impact their learning environment?
    • What sort of distraction will the mask be on your face hours on end?
    • How will children be able to learn with muffled voices and being unable to hear instructions clearly?
    • How will this impact their mental health?
    • Physically distanced from everyone in the room?
    • No community activities?
    • Can socialization happen in this type of environment? What does this do to child development?

    RESOURCES TO CONSIDER:

The CDC just came out with a report of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public.

May 2020, For the first time, the CDC has attempted to offer a real estimate of the overall death rate for COVID-19, and under its most likely scenario, the number is 0.26%.

Officials estimate a 0.4% fatality rate among those who are symptomatic and project a 35% rate of asymptomatic cases among those infected, which drops the overall infection fatality rate (IFR) to just 0.26% — almost exactly where Stanford researchers pegged ita month ago.

(As opposed to the 3.4% estimate of the World Health Organization, which helped drive the panic and the lockdown.)

  • Concerned About COVID-19? Get Sunshine and Fresh Air

Scientists have known that SARS-CoV thrives in indoor environments, since 2010 (probably earlier).

“Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus, both surfaces and in the air,” he said. “We’ve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, were increasing the temperature and humidity or both are generally less favorable to the virus.”
    https://www.newsweek.com/sunlight-kills-coronavirus-scientist-1500012

So what are our governors doing?

Trying to force everyone to stay in their homes.
And all of the people needing treatment for COVID-19?…are being kept inside hospitals where the virus thrives.

    Playgrounds are closed.
    Campgrounds are closed.
    Hiking is being discouraged.
River rafting has been shut down.

Every animal on Earth requires sunlight and oxygen to live and thrive. Being outside is ESSENTIAL.

Yet, we are expected to stay INDOORS and to literally restrict the supply of oxygen to our lungs, brain, and every other organ in our bodies via wearing ineffective masks.

    Take away:

    • Throw the mask away.
    • Get out of your homes.
    • Go wherever you can to breathe in the fresh air.
    • Get yourself some sunlight.

  • Epidemiologist: Our Response is Putting Elderly At Risk

On this episode of HealthMade Radio, Dr. Michael Karlfeldt discusses the nationwide response to the COVID-19 virus with Dr. Knut M. Wittkowski, who has been modeling epidemics for 35 years. He is the former chief biostatistician and epidemiologist at Rockefeller University Hospital. Dr. Wittkowski, believes that our response to the virus is not only wrong but will increase the length of the outbreak and put the elderly and susceptible at a greater risk.

    https://youtu.be/OEyo65HDRck

“With all respiratory diseases, the only thing that stops the disease is <natural> herd immunity,” the epidemiologist said. “About 80% of the people need to have had contact with the virus, and the majority of them won’t even have recognized that they were infected, or they had very, very mild symptoms, especially if they are children.”

    HERD IMMUNITY

This term is widely used but not widely understood. Herd Immunity, a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that occurs when a large percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, through previous infections, thereby providing a measure of protection for individuals who are not immune.

“As with every respiratory disease, we should protect the elderly and fragile because when they get pneumonia, they have a high risk of dying of pneumonia. So that is one of the key issues that we should keep in mind. On the other hand, children do very well with these diseases. They’re evolutionarily designed to be exposed to all sorts of viruses during their lifetime, and so they should keep going to school and infecting each other. Then, that contributes to herd immunity, which means after about four weeks at the most, the elderly people (who had been could start joining their family because then the virus would have been extinguished.”

OUR CURRENT REACTION TO THIS VIRUS WAS BASED ON GUESSWORK AND IT IS WRONG

Epidemiologists, public health professionals who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury in humans, were left out of the discussion when models were developed for the outbreak of this flu, which resulted in the knee-jerk reaction to shut down schools and implement ‘anti-social’ distancing.

“It was all based on guesswork without a clear understanding of the epidemic spread.” Dr. Widtokowski, an epidemiologist with 35 years, “We did not take appropriate action with the knowledge we had.”

For example, China and South Korea reached a max peak of infections before implementing ‘social distancing,’ when the number of cases was already at a decline. Their epidemic peaked was four weeks; in contrast, here in the United States, it is taking a lot more time. By not allowing the virus to run its course, especially among the children who are at little to no risk of complications, our country is unable to develop herd immunity increasing the risk to those most susceptible.

    HUMAN AND VIRUSES MUST CO-EXIST

The idea that we can and should eradicate viruses to keep us safe is counterproductive and quite impossible.

Dr. Widtkowski explains it this way,

“The best course of action is to rely on what nature has come up with the last 100,000 years.  The virus enters the human population and stays there for a week or two. Its infection in the population rises -reaches a peak- then the number of infections declines, and in the end, the virus is eradicated. Why? Because there are many more people in the population that are immune than those that are susceptible. So anybody that brings the virus into the population would not bring any further infection. Its the initial course of any disease. Humans don’t need to do much about it.”

OUR RESPONSE IS BASED ON UNREASONABLE FEAR

Dr. Michael Karlfeldt explains the current reaction of individuals in the United States. “It is scary. This invisible virus can’t be seen, and it’s everywhere. Some people can be asymptomatic and spread it.”

“What you are describing – we go through this every year during the flu season. The flu enters the population, starts spreading, then declines. We never see it. (It is always invisible.) We never know who will be infected. Why is this year different? I don’t know. Maybe it is because the internet a media, and rumors are spreading faster than any virus is spread. The President and Mayor of New York from one day to the next went from a reasonable to the unreasonable response. “

If we look at the data, what we are seeing is very typical for our annual flu virus. Every year, during the flu season, there are approximately 35,000 deaths. We have ten thousand who died from this COVID-19 flu, and even this should double it would still be of the lower end of what is regular flu seasons.

HFI: Notice the RED LINE below from a CDC generated-graph reflecting FLU Hospitalizations. There was more last year and our hospitals didn’t need tents or ships to service the individuals!

    https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/#S2

IDAHO: Here’s some statistics from April 4 via the CDC.
It shows 299 flu deaths in ID. The Health Department is reporting 27 CV deaths. (Combined these deaths are similar/less than previous years)
WHY ARE WE PANICKING? We should be protecting the vulnerable and allowing the healthy to live and support those who NEED to shelter in place. We have this all backward! https://coronavirus.idaho.gov/ https://gis.cdc.gov/grasp/fluview/mortality.html #stayhome

SHARP DECLINE IN FLU POSITIVE TESTS NATIONWIDE

See Idaho Statistics from the CDC : https://gis.cdc.gov/grasp/fluview/fluportaldashboard.html

Unfortunately, at the end of March, the CDC changed reporting for deaths from COVID-19. Now anyone with the virus will be considered a death FROM the virus even if it did not contribute to death.

61 Year Old Man Dies from Head Injury but that the virus was listed as a contributing factor to his death.

    https://www.lehighvalleylive.com/coronavirus/2020/03/2nd-coronavirus-patient-dies-in-lehigh-valley-he-was-61-and-from-warren-county.html

    DOES NOVEL MEAN MORE DANGEROUS?

No, ‘novel’ means that a particular virus hasn’t been seen before. It doesn’t mean its more dangerous or kills more people. Every influenza virus that hasn’t been around for 15 years would also be considered a ‘novel’ virus; otherwise, people would already have herd immunity, and the infections wouldn’t spread.

FLATTENING THE CURVE INCREASES THE RISK

There are several sources of data available worldwide, and if you analyze the data, it reveals that there is no major difference between this epidemic and other flu epidemics. The only major difference is everywhere we see social distancing was implemented; it takes more time for the virus to reach the level of herd immunity; therefore, it stays in the population longer. This allows more time for exposure for the elderly and susceptible people at risk.

By flatting the curve, we are INCREASING the risk for the elderly and the number of deaths overall. It is better to let nature take the course.

    CLOSING SCHOOLS THE WRONG APPROACH

“If there had been no intervention, the epidemic would have been over, like every other respiratory disease epidemic,” Wittkowski said. The virus should have been allowed to spread among healthy children and young people who generally don’t even experience symptoms. The entire population could have achieved herd immunity in “two weeks.” He said only elderly, and at-risk individuals should have been isolated until herd immunity was reached.

What we have done has only prolonged this epidemic and prevent us from getting herd immunity putting the susceptible at more risk for a more extended period of time. We have prevented the children from becoming infected and immune, allowing the virus to spread among other parts of the population – which is the elderly at risk of becoming infected, seriously ill, and then die.

If schools had remained open, and the virus would have been allowed to take it’s course naturally. Children would develop immunity, creating herd immunity. As the virus is actively circulating, the emphasis should have been protecting the medically frail and those over age 60, and in particular, those over 70 and 80, from exposure.

IT’S NOT THE VIRUS THAT IS DANGEROUS ITS OUR IMMUNE RESPONSE

We are not suffering from the virus being in our bodies. The danger comes with the immune response of killing all the cells that are infected, resulting in inflammation. The inflammatory response can create respiratory problems, bacteria on the inflamed skin, etc. It is rarely the virus itself. The danger of relying on a vaccine is the potential for a vaccine that makes the immune response even more ridge. A more robust response could then cause the symptoms of the disease to get worse.

    THE CORRECT RESPONSE

“Closing the schools probably one of the most destructive actions the government has done.”

The correct response will be to allow the virus to run its course, especially in our young people. Allow the children to go back to school.

Continuing this nationwide school shutdown, this is the worst thing you can do, not only for the epidemic of the virus but also for the children. That will strengthen their immune system, build immunity, transfer immunity to their parents, and start to establish herd immunity and protect the elderly from this virus.

A correct course of action would be to “preferentially protecting” the high risk and highly susceptible population. This course of action is something people have been doing for many years.

Listen to the full episode to hear Dr. Karlfeldt and Dr. Wittkowski answer these questions:

    • What about the Italian death toll, does America compare?
    • How does epidemic figures compare from the non-response by Sweden, and the neighboring countries Norway and Finland?
    • Does our current knowledge in the US give us an advantage in dealing with the outbreak?
    • A vaccine – an appropriate solution?
    • What about viral mutations?

  • 6 Mind-Blowing Benefits of CBD for a Healthy Skin

Your skin is not only the largest organ in the body, but it’s also the most visible to other people. As such, you will need to give your skin the extra care it deserves to keep it healthy and young.

However, one should be careful with the products you turn to whenever you experience any skin problems because skincare products with harsh chemicals will only cause more problems. Some of the most common skin conditions are wrinkles, dryness, pimples, rashes, and redness. These issues indicate that something is amiss inside your body.

The good news is that CBD is the perfect solution as it has various health benefits. It can help in restoring much-needed moisture and nutrients to the skin, thus encouraging faster healing of your skin.

    1. Treating acne

Numerous studies on CBD oil show that it has incredible anti-inflammatory benefits. This property is especially ideal for skins that are susceptible to acne because it can provide a calming effect. In most cases, acne results from inflammations, and CBD works on soothing the response, thus reducing the chances of more breakouts and redness. One can also grow marijuana plants at home by planting indoor marijuana seeds. Make sure you buy a wide array of industrial hemp farms products from trusted sources only.

Additionally, another acne trigger is excess oil production on the skin. CBD hemp capsules can help lower the secretion of sebum, thus preventing and reducing acne breakouts.

    2. Skin cell rejuvenation

The endocannabinoid system in the human body is responsible for the production of new cells. However, some people have a system that does not work well, which means their basal cells are not well facilitated.

These cells form the inner epidermal layer that requires replenishment for their well-being. As such, if the skin is to remain in good condition, the new cells need to get space from the old cells.

CBD oil can be the answer to the quest for skin rejuvenation. It can interact with skin receptors to help in the production of cannabinoids for perfectly glowing skin.

    3. Anti-aging

Today, most anti-aging skincare products have CBD as one of their ingredients. The reason is that CBD contains antioxidants properties, which means that it has the potential to reduce the appearance of skin aging symptoms.

Busy schedules in our lives mean that we have less time to follow a strict skincare regime. On the other hand, various factors in our environment, such as processed food diet, dehydration, and dirty environment, have an adverse impact on the skin.

A study shows that CBD is the perfect boon for healthy skin. Antioxidants help in repairing damaged skin and reducing excessive wrinkles, fine lines, ruddy skin tone, and skin dullness. The best part about the use of CBD as a skincare ingredient is that it’s a natural and effective product.

    Image

    4. Rich in vitamins

Vitamin E and D are crucial for the nourishment of the skin. These vitamins help in enhancing the elasticity of the skin. Besides, CBD contains omega 3 acids, which are necessary for healthy skin, where it can help tackle the problem of rough skin and conditions such as dermatitis.

    5. Alleviates psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that causes the deterioration of healthy skin cells. It encourages skin cells to multiply faster on the skin, causing abnormal patches. This condition can be hard to handle and is also painful.

CBD oil can help in dealing with the pain caused by psoriasis. It can also help in controlling the increased cell multiplication.

    6. Antioxidant properties

When free radicals are present in the body, they can cause harm both internally and externally. Unfortunately, our environment is under trouble due to increased pollution, and as such, we come into contact with more free radicals.

According to a study, the consumption of CBD provides the body with enough antioxidants. They help the body in combating various pathogens and carcinogens that could be life-threatening. In addition, it can help deal with several diseases for a better and healthier overall body.

    Care of sensitive skin

The sensitivity of the skin may cause redness, coarse and dry skin, and dullness. Sensitive skin requires extra attention, where you will need to be careful not to land on harsh products. CBD oil is soothing on the skin and a natural compound. It’s also an effective topical that works well on dealing with various issues associated with sensitive skin.

Various conditions in the environment cause harm to most skin types; it’s essential to incorporate CBD in your skincare routine since its calming effect ensures that your skin looks good throughout.

    CBD products for the skin

There are a variety of CBD creams available on the market. Among some of the CBD products you can buy for your skin include:

    • CBD soap
    • CBD oil and serum
    • CBD lip balm
    • CBD salve
    • CBD bath bombs & salt

    Image

    Conclusion

The cosmetic market has numerous products, and people are willing to spend a fortune in search of perfect skin. Unfortunately, most of these products are not natural, and they can cause more harm than good. CBD skincare products are the best way to go because they have overwhelming benefits and more so because it’s a natural remedy for various skin conditions. Moreover, CBD is a non-psychoactive product, and you can even use it as a detox drink for drug tests.

  • How Meditation Benefits Alzheimer’s Patients

    How Meditation Benefits Alzheimer’s Patients

Several claims about the benefits of meditation toward Alzheimer’s Disease have become more apparent these days. This leads then to the notion that meditating may help slow down symptoms and even probably alleviate the condition.

    Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common type of dementia among elders and seniors. As per the National Institute of Aging, it is “progressive” and “irreversible” as it causes brain damages, which then results in problems memory, thinking skills, and behavior.

In the United States, about 5.8 million individuals have Alzheimer’s. It was also released by Alzheimer’s Association that in this figure, nearly 97 percent are ages 65 and above. Only 200,000 of them are aged below 65.

While the condition was said to be on the rise in recent times, it is worth noting that Alzheimer’s Disease is not normal for anyone. As it happens, it is not part of aging.

    Causes of Alzheimer’s Disease

The main cause of Alzheimer’s Disease has yet to be known. Even so, several claims made by experts in the field, especially those who have experiences in handling memory care facilities for seniors, have been able to connect the dots and link the condition to various risk factors.

As explained by NHS UK, the condition is “thought” to be the result of the abnormal protein build-up in brain cells. These proteins involved form “plaques” and “tangles” within the cells.

It remains unknown, though, as to what causes this to happen. Nevertheless, it was attested that the process normally happens long before the initial symptoms manifest to a person.

Some of the risk factors were also noted. And these include:

    •         Age
    •         Genetics
    •         Cognitive Impairment
    •         Head Trauma
    •         Cardiovascular Health
    •         Stress
    •         Poor Sleeping Habits
    •         Poor Lifestyle

    Cure, Treatments, and Prevention

The same institutions revealed that there is no cure yet for Alzheimer’s Disease. So, there is no way yet to stop its progression. It is quite logical, though, as the main cause of the condition has not yet been discovered. But, once experts have been able to make a breakthrough in finding the cause, searching for the cure will surely then follow.

In parallel with this conclusion, prevention is the best option for individuals who do not have Alzheimer’s. And the best ways to prevent it is to consider all the risk factors and move from there.

Given all the variables that could contribute to the progression and manifestation of the disease, one could simply change their ways and habits, especially in the aspect of their lifestyle. It is worth noting that prevention is way better than cure.

But, despite all of these things, there are still treatments that can be given to people who are suffering from AD. They are very evident in many senior assisted living homes and facilities today. Such treatments include medications, therapies, and other alternative treatments.

By far, alternative treatments have become a very significant aspect in the field of treating Alzheimer’s. And one of these things largely tackles meditation.

    Meditation and Alzheimer’s Disease

As we all know, meditation has been practiced by a lot of people since then. And the popularity of the practice has become a lot more emphasized today since the benefits of practicing mindfulness have been largely centered by many experts and actual practitioners.

In terms of treating Alzheimer’s Disease, since the condition targets the mind, memory, and the quality of these aspects, many individuals in the field sought the importance of the links between meditation and the condition. Based on reports, the results were promising.

According to a study conducted in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, meditation showed impressive effects on people who have Alzheimer’s Disease. It was concluded that the practice of mindfulness can effectively slow down the progression of the disease.

An article was also published by Express UK claiming that meditation can also be utilized to protect individuals, especially the elderly, against dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. In the report, several experts also noted how studies have been able to make a breakthrough in this area.

While the studies have not been conclusive yet, it was claimed that this is already a great discovery in preventing and treating AD and other forms of dementia.

    How Meditation Helps

While the base and foundation of the research and studies about the benefits of meditation to Alzheimer’s today already proved that the practice is beneficial, several claims attested that these things need further basis and proof. But, even so, the specifications on how meditation can help the condition may already serve as a good starting point.

Here are the proven points on how meditation can benefit people who have Alzheimer’s Disease:

    • Prevention From Cognitive Decline

Cognitive decline is one of the risk factors of the condition. Also, the decline further happens when the disease starts to progress. But, as per Everyday Health, regular meditation increases and elevates the cerebral blood flow. As a result, it helps decrease stress and improves focus and concentration. Accordingly, the practice helps people with AD to fight cognitive decline and delay the progression.

    • Beta-Amyloid Change

People who have Alzheimer’s Disease were always seen to have “clumps of beta-amyloid protein. It is unclear, however, if this mainly causes the condition.

As per Medical News Today, data was gathered after controlling a group of seniors who practice meditation for 12 weeks. It was found that changes in the amount of beta-amyloid occurred. While it remains inconclusive, several claims have been already made that meditation can help people with AD in terms of the symptoms.

    •   Cellular Aging

Cellular aging is a great risk factor as well to Alzheimer’s Disease. Aside from the development, it also comes with the progression.

While aging is obviously irreversible, meditation, as well as, yoga is found to be great practices that can “physically change cells.” The paper was written by Linda Carlson from the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Canada.

    •   Hippocampus Structure

The hippocampus of people who have AD shows significant shrinkage in its structures. However, Alzheimers Net suggests that individuals who practice yoga and meditation show “less atrophy” in the structure of the hippocampus despite having the disease.

    • Grey Matter and Cortical Thickness

From the same institution, regular meditation has been noted to increase cortical thickness and grey matter in the brain. Because of this, the aging rate of the brain slows down, which helps alleviate brain-related conditions.

It has been also suggested that the increase in such matters is linked to a person’s decision making and memory. And all of these are essential aspects that must be considered and paid attention to on people who are suffering from Alzheimer’s.

    Final Thoughts

All in all, all of the studies and research in recent times linking meditation and Alzheimer’s Disease have remained inconclusive. Even so, the actual data gathered in each study already proves that meditation can largely benefit people who have Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

  • Organic Baby Food: Better for Your Baby?

A parent is faced with many choices to make before as well as after the baby is born. Whether it is finding the best daycare or choosing the right equipment for your baby, expenses for new parents tend to add real fast.

In an attempt to save money, new parents could be wondering if buying organic food for their babies is worth it. It is not unusual for parents to go for a lower-cost conventional baby food option to save the few extra pennies they would have to pay for organic food.

The benefits of consuming organic food are widely known and, most notably, for toddlers. Hence, for baby development it is crucial to consider organically grown food. Food that is certified organic in the US is grown without the use of bioengineered genes (GMO), synthetic pesticides, sewage sludge-based fertilizers, and petroleum-based fertilizers.

According to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), organic animals should also be raised in a way that naturally supports their health and behavior. They must be fed a 100% certified organic diet, they must live on land that has been certified organic, and where they get year-round access to the outdoors, they shouldn’t be treated with hormones, antibiotics, or other prohibited ingredients.

Organic crop growers must also avoid using any genetically modified seeds and instead utilize other methods like crop rotation, to preserve fertility and soil quality. In place of herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides, USDA emphasizes those organic growers strongly rely on the PAMS (Prevention, Avoidance, Monitoring, and Suppression) strategy for safe pest management.

But why is organic food more expensive? Well, because providing safe and better living surroundings for domestic animals, obtaining and maintaining organic certification, and employing other useful organic practices cost more than the methods conventional farmers use.

This is why organic foods are slightly more expensive than non-organic food. The organic price tag is a way that closely reflects the real cost of growing food: the intensive management for chemicals, substituting labor, environmental, and health costs that are borne by society.

So is organic food better for your baby? Is it worth to pay a little more for organic food? We look at the benefits of organic food to your baby:

    Limited Chemical Exposure

Organic food is a better choice for your baby because of the lack of chemical exposure. There are toxins in pesticides used on crops that could cause a host of health problems that could affect the baby’s growth rate, brain development, and overall health.

Pesticides may be linked to an increased risk of developmental and behavioral issues, hormonal and neurological issues, cancer, and other health problems.

    Better Mental Health

There is a direct correlation between disease and diet, which means that the risks of ADD, concentration problems and depression can be lowered by feeding your baby organic baby food.

    Better Physical Health

Based on this nutritional study, it was discovered that two-year-olds who were fed exclusively organic dairy products developed fewer incidents of wheezing and eczema. This helps reduce the chances of your baby being diagnosed with asthma.

Photo by Benjamin Davies on Unsplash

    Environmentally Friendly

Conventional foods or non-organic foods are sprayed with chemicals like pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. These chemicals have been designed to remain on the plant, but when it rains, a portion of them will wash off and be absorbed in the surrounding groundwater and soil, which eventually affects even the wildlife.

    Better Taste

Even with all the research surrounding organic foods, there is no denying that organic food tastes better than conventional food. When you start your baby on solids, organic food will allow your baby’s palate to enjoy what is in the mouth.

A good number of parents prefer organic baby food because it simply tastes better with others, prefers it because it is environmentally friendly.

However, what is most important is a balanced diet. Giving your baby homemade organic baby food from the beginning will help set your kids up for a lifetime of healthy eating.

  • The effect of Curcumin on Cancer

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. Conventional therapies cause widespread systemic toxicity and lead to serious side effects that prohibit their long term use. Additionally, in many circumstances, tumor resistance and recurrence is commonly observed.

The use of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs to destroy cancer cells remains the standard treatment for patients with metastatic cancer. Cytotoxic drugs inhibit cell division and in this way cause cancer cells to die. The efficacy of these treatments is limited, with recurrence common.

    https://www.eurekaselect.com/131474/article

Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify suitable anticancer therapies that are highly precise with minimal side effects. Curcumin is a natural polyphenol molecule derived from the Curcuma longa plant which exhibits anticancer, chemo-preventive, chemo- and radio-sensitization properties. Curcumin’s widespread availability, safety, low cost, and multiple cancer-fighting functions justify its development as a drug for cancer treatment.

Curcumin has been shown to have numerous cytotoxic effects on cancer stem cells (CSCs) yet curcumin has little toxicity against normal stem cells (NSCs).

    AntiCancer Research Journal
    http://ar.iiarjournals.org/content/35/2/599.full.pdf+html

In order to overcome common major obstacles in conventional cancer therapeutics, scientists are searching for effective treatments within alternative medicine, complementary medicine, and supplements. The National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (USA) recognizes complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as prevention/treatment options (http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/cam).

Natural herbal compounds or daily food ingredients are widely studied to learn their specific roles in anticancer activities [2, 3]. Unlike first-line cancer therapeutic drugs, herbal and natural compounds are capable of targeting cancer(s) via several pathways and are, therefore, more valuable and reliable in producing superior therapeutic effects in a disease condition (multiple pathogenic factors) [4, 6].

It is believed that herbal medicine brings new hope for cancer prevention due to the safety of herbs and lack of discernible toxicity to normal cells. This alternative approach has been used to treat a wide spectrum of cancers.

December 2019, the FDA is on track to reject fully 95% of the 300+ nominated natural ingredients used by patients as compounded medications, despite a long history of safe use and patient need including curcumin.

With this pressing need to find alternative less toxic and more effective anticancer therapies, what could the FDA’s reasoning be to eliminate access to curcumin for individuals with cancer?

Comments from the public to the FDA closed the beginning of December. However, You can still make your voice heard.

  • Removing Moles, Warts and Skin Tags Naturally

Before we go on and talk about these little skin imperfections, let’s be clear, there’s nothing irregular about them, and these things are just part of us, which we can keep or even choose to remove, but either way, it’s totally harmless. Let’s further discuss them separately.

    What are moles?

A little black spot often called the ‘beauty spot’ is a tiny spot that can be brown, tan, or black, and it could be flat or even raised. These are generally like birthmarks. We get them naturally as we grow up, but too much sun exposure in childhood can lead to an increased number of moles on a person’s body. These are generally small and can occur on any part of your skin.

Can you remove moles by yourself?

Definitely, if you’re patient enough because you can’t simply snip it off, besides removing them, there’s always a quick way out, which is to use a concealer. Read further for some amazing home remedies that can make it fade away quickly, but first, let us read about warts and see how they’re different from moles.

    What are warts?

Commonly found in feet, fingers, and hands, these may look a little similar to moles but are deeply settled into the skin, may appear dark or pale as according to how long it had been there on the skin. It is usually bumpy and scaly and is caused by viruses, so yes, chances are it is contagious and can be painful as compared to moles, which are neither contagious nor painful.

Is it safe to remove them at home?

The answer is yes. You’ll be surprised to know that there are various techniques that can easily help you get rid of it within a month. So hold on and read further for some tips, but first, let’s discuss skin tags, which seem like really unknown to many.

    What are skin tags?

It looks like a ball of flesh tagged to a thread of skin, and that’s where it got its name from. The condition is commonly visible in the underarms and neck because that’s where the skin keeps rubbing against the skin, leading to the formation of a flap-like a thing which further keeps getting larger and takes the form of a skin tag. The real reason behind this is friction or what you can simply call, skin rubbing against skin.

    Can this be minimized?

Yes, there are some really easy ways to get this collagen baggage fall of naturally. Now let us take a look at some of the most effective remedies to treat these conditions naturally.

5 natural remedies for removing moles, warts and skin tags

    1. Garlic- This works extremely well against all three types of skin conditions, basically because it contains some enzymes that can help to dissolve cell clusters. Make sure you don’t apply it on irritated skin, or it can burn. Crush a few cloves of garlic and with the help of a cotton pad, apply it on the moles, warts, or skin tags, let it dry naturally and after 15-20 minutes, wash it off with water. Repeat this once a day, and you’ll start seeing it fading away.
    2. Castor oil – You can simply try Castor oil to remove moles, It’s not just moles, but warts and tags too; castor oil is extremely beneficial for lightening pigmentation as well as decluttering the dead cells. Simply massage it over the area before you sleep. You’ll start seeing changes within a few weeks.
    3. Tea tree oil- This amazing essential oil suits all skin types and can make these skin conditions disappear within a few weeks. Extremely effective, it’s packed with anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties, just don’t forget to mix it with some carrier oil before you use it on your skin.
    4. Potatoes- We all know how good it is for removing that tan, no wonders it has amazing bleaching properties, and it can remove the discoloration caused due to these skin conditions. Just cut some thin slices of potato or squeeze out some juice, apply it over the affected area and let it sit there for 20 minutes, wash with water and pat dry. Repeat this once a day for a few weeks.
    5. Banana peels- It contains those enzymes which can effectively reduce the pigmentation and help soothing warts as well. If rubbed over the target areas, it can help to melt the accumulated dead skin as well and make it fall off quickly. Repeat this thrice a week, accompanied by other remedies, and you’ll see visible results really very soon.

One shouldn’t be too much bothered because of such conditions because these are pretty much harmless. If it creates some kind of uneasiness, then you should definitely consider other options as well, but treating them naturally is usually a safer option.

  • Cancer Parents – Self-Care is a Must

When my son was newly diagnosed it felt as though the ground opened up and swallowed ME. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t stand. Shortly thereafter I couldn’t sleep. Food lost its appeal. It was a moment by moment struggle to fight off the demons of depression, guilt, shame, and rage. All this, and I wasn’t even the one fighting for my life. It was worse – I was fighting for my son’s life.

As the days, weeks, and months wore on, I continued to focus on my son. Utterly and completely on my son. I tried to stay connected to people in the physical realm but it was hard. We were living at the hospital, fighting off unnecessary medications, pouring in necessary nutrients, and providing other supportive modalities (most against the doctor’s better judgement). But he was THRIVING! So, what I was doing was working – how could I stop… even for a minute?

It was second nature to put my self-care on hold. I mean, my world had been turned upside down and I could no longer tell you what made me happy or filled my soul. Everything I was, became about saving my son.
    THIS IS NOT OKAY.

Yes, it is a worthy thing to give your all to keeping your child alive! It is admirable. BUT, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Very quickly the fervor with which you were once able to recognize a detail, address it, handle the situation, and move on is gone. It takes more intention to focus on that detail, even more time for it to register as something to address, etc, etc. How long does it take to get that fervor back? I don’t have an answer for you. Why? Because I’m still trying to get that fervor back for myself. I am slowly regaining my SELF. I can’t help but wonder if I would be struggling with this if I had implemented better self-care policies during my son’s treatment. I will never know.

Disclaimer: I speak from a mom’s perspective here. I in no way mean to diminish what fathers experience… I simply don’t have that viewpoint. So, when I talk about moms doing this or that I do not mean that fathers are absent or uninvolved. My world greatly revolves around cancer mommas and since I am one, that is the place from which I share. Moving on…

So, what self-care did I manage to practice? Well, I drank coffee or tea. Hey, it makes me happy and I will not feel guilty for those thousands of calories I drank over the years as I sought to hold onto ANYTHING that would make any part of me happy. Apparently my mouth was the easiest to satisfy.

I had a friend who was INSTRUMENTAL in helping my body not totally collapse under the crushing weight of stress associated with my child’s cancer journey. She is a massage therapist and her blessing to me was free massages as long as my son was in treatment. Oh, how I wish she had moved states with me. What a Godsend!

Another friend is a hairdresser and offered free hair cuts during treatment. It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? But it was a HUGE blessing to know that I had that option available to me and I didn’t have to stress about the financial element of it either. Once my son was strong enough and I felt confident leaving him with my parents, I would sneak off for a date with my husband or even a date with a girlfriend.

I had to FORCE myself to go because the mom-guilt was always strong.

My main source of personal therapy came in the form of a blog. A log of the journey, if you will. While I would sit in the hospital room, monitors beeping, TV & Wii going, my boy sleeping… I would type. I would pour out my heart through the keyboard of my laptop. Some days the posts were dark, raw, transparent. Other days they were full of faith and Scripture and hope. Sometimes the post was solely photos so people could watch the journey unfold.

Regardless of the content, the daily habit of writing out updates was cathartic.

I had learned this technique 8 years prior when my family experienced a tragedy of another kind. The blog was a way for me to update everyone who was interested in one place at one time. I was not fielding calls and talking so much I lost my voice this time. Plus, now I have a log of the journey that I can revisit for many reasons. I have gone back to find facts about his treatment, emotions I dealt with during the various phases, and often times it serves as a way for me to continue grieving in a seemingly healthy way.

Transparent thought: it is still VERY HARD to look back and see that sweet little face facing the fight of his life and hearing that little voice share what was on his mind.

Toward the end of his treatment, I discovered MaxLove Project. I’ve mentioned them in previous articles so they might sound familiar by now. They were creating a pilot program called BE SUPER Boot Camp. It was a way for moms to connect online in a group and spend 21 days focusing on THEMSELVES.
The BE SUPER Plan had 7 points, each scientifically backed and shown to help reduce the effects of stress. Isn’t that what every cancer parent needs during a journey like this? Yes, yes it is. I lunged at the opportunity to be a part of this pilot program, a sort of beta test, if you will.

It was incredible. I was introduced to things I hadn’t considered and I was revisiting things that I was already aware of. It had the added bonus of creating a personal community of like-“lifed” mommas who got it. They knew what I was feeling. Many had very similar journeys – children with the same diagnosis. Others were walking a different sort of journey BUT OUR EMOTIONS WERE THE SAME.

At the end of the Boot Camp, I knew I needed to be more involved with this organization and this sort of life-giving community. I went on to become a Momma Mentor with MaxLove Project and co-led a Boot Camp for blood cancer mommas. The program was still in a beta phase and each “glitch” was a beautiful learning opportunity. I loved this group of moms just as much as I loved the original batch. I am still connected to many of them today. This kind of community is what is severely lacking on a national level. It is my goal to change that. More on that later.

    Back to self-care.

    KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Self-care does not need to look like a fishing trip off-grid for a week at a time or a lavish cruise in the Mexican Riviera. It can simply be curling up on the couch with a book for 20 minutes. Spending the time to blow dry your hair instead of throwing it up into a ponytail still dripping wet. It could be splurging for the large/ venti/ bigger cup at your local coffee/ tea chain.

    KEEP IT FOCUSED.
Most people think of self-care in only the physical realm – does it feel good to my body? Example: manicures, massages, etc.
Do not forget about your emotional health. Does the self-care act bring you joy or anxiousness? We’re going for joy, in case you were confused. What about your spiritual health? Are you doing something that connects you to God? Prayer, meditation, worship music… all these can be self-care and they’re FREE. Your mental health. Does the self-care act require more mental energy? If you have to engage your mind a bunch your body will feel the effects and often not in a relaxing way.
What about your social health? Is the self-care act connecting you to the community that you may need to lean into for strength and support or is it pulling you further away which will make it harder to get help when you need/ want it?
These are just thoughts and ideas to get you thinking about how you can care for ALL OF YOU throughout the journey.

Each day has opportunities for you to care for a different part of you.

If you are struggling with how to care for YOU, let me walk you through 7 actions that you can keep on a back burner for when you need help directing your self-care thoughts.

    1. Positive thinking. I know this sounds gimmicky, but there is legitimate science to back up the importance and power of a positive mindset.
    2. Eating. Again, this can sound simple but this isn’t about comfort food. This is about nutrient-dense foods that fuel your body which will help ease the stress impact on your body, keep you healthy, and so much more.
    3. Sleep. You NEED good sleep. You need even more good sleep when you are stressed. Your body takes such a beating on a journey like childhood cancer parenting that your body needs all the time it can get to repair itself. Turn off tech, diffuse soothing essential oils, stretch before you try to fall asleep.
    4. Exercise. It doesn’t have to be CrossFit. It does have to be movement. A little spurt of something that gets your heart pumping and your lungs working.
    5. Meditation. This takes practice and it is one of the things that will positively impact you the most. Getting control of your mind is a huge task with great benefits.
    6. Community. Humans are social creatures and a cancer journey is a scenario that can easily pull us out and away from our community. Your community should be healthy, stable, strong… if you need to prune your community “garden”, so be it. Your thrivership is worth it.
    7. Detox your environment. You cannot heal in a toxic environment. Whether it be people, actual chemical toxins, or emotional toxicity… you need to address that, clean it up, and replace with cleaner options.

CANCER PARENTS: Go easy on yourself. If you are in this cancer journey you know how all-consuming it can be. Sure, you find a “new normal” and learn to walk in that but then you must allow yourself the grace and space to grieve the previous normal you knew. You need to acknowledge that this is NOT the way you saw your child’s life going and really walk through those emotions. You need a safe place to talk about the ugly with people who “get it”. There is power and encouragement in simply knowing you are not alone. If you desire that kind of community, or know someone who needs it, please reach out to Reimaging Healing and let’s get you plugged in… >Contact/ Support Group<  to find out more information.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! YOU CAN DO THIS! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

COMMUNITY MEMBERS: You are so important to cancer parents. You have a unique opportunity to serve a drastically under-served population who needs you more than ever before! Do you have a skillset or product that you could use to bless the parent(s) of a child fighting cancer? If yes, would you be willing to bless them? Please connect with Reimagine Healing (>Contact/ Cancer Parent Supporter<) and let us know what you are willing to do to support these parents.

  • How to Overcome Stress With CBD, Meditation, and Yoga

You may have experienced some form of unease, and you get confused with everything that comes your way; that is stress. Stress is a phenomenon where the brain tries to respond to different kinds of demands that can make you feel comfortable. Work, exercise, school, and relationships are some of the major events that cause this kind of trauma on your brain. Two types of stressful conditions can affect your healthy living include long-term and short-term kinds of stress.

You need to choose the right path to manage and overcome anxiety without affecting your neighbor. CBD is known to have a low-psychoactive effect that can keep you enthusiastic during any form of stress. CBD is available in the form of oils, capsules, and tincture.

Meditation is the practice of focusing on a given object or activity to help you derive a certain point and overcome a given condition and feeling. Meditation assists in maintaining attention and general awareness of your state. Stress need flight and fight responses to make the body and mind relax. Light exercise such as Yoga can highly assist during any form of brain trauma as your brain concentrates on fitness rather that the situation on the ground.

Here are some of the useful ideas of how to overcome stress with CBD, meditation, and yoga:

    Why take CBD for stress?

Stress can lead to different conditions that will negatively affect your health. When you have a prolonged type of stress, you may end up suffering from depression, high blood pressure, and hypertension. If the situation is not short-term, then you need an immediate intervention to reset your baseline stress- response. The medical intervention takes a long way, and this can make you feel uneasy. You should consider supplementing your situation with the essential products of CBD that are safe for use. The safety precautions must come from the FDA, and this involves screening of the marijuana seeds and the whole process of extraction and processing of the products.

Plenty of convincing research explores the interaction of the body with these kinds of products during any anxiety caused by stress phenomenal. The anti-anxiety property assists the clinician and psychotherapists to subject their clients to CBD. Some of the major conditions that CBD can overcome include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, obsessive anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. All these conditions affect the brain, which in turn reacts with different perception considering the nature of your body.

Anxiety comes with feelings such as dread, unpreparedness, and imminent danger that recur, leading to various thoughts and physical reactions. The small difference in genetic variation can work on your hormones and chemicals to try to calm the situation. Norepinephrine and serotonin can have a good impact on anxiety. The high level of stress hormones interferes with the endocannabinoid balance. From the CBD, the Phytocannabinoids and terpenes must have a reasonable ratio to the body for effective action.

The CBD binds with the 5-HTA1, which is a receptor that controls the release of the stress hormone serotonin. Serotonin releases the receptors that bind to the neurotransmitters and make the brain to remain at ease. The endocannabinoid system faces imbalance during stress. With the introduction of CBD, the system can restore overstimulation by binding to CB1 receptors, which in turn assist in the release of fear and tension.

    How does meditation counter-attack stress?

Man Wearing Black Cap With Eyes Closed Under Cloudy Sky

    Image

Anyone can practice meditation because it is simple, cost-effective, not time consuming, and does not require any equipment. Meditation does need a specific environment as compared to other forms of stress relievers. The research noted that mediation help in deepening the level of self-awareness. It also helps in stress reduction and a general relaxation of the mind. Many people consider the process of meditation as complementary medicine for the mind and body.

During meditation, when under stress, you may focus your attention on a stream of jumbled thoughts in your mind. Sometimes it may take the shortest time possible, and at times, you may go for hours because of the comfort you are feeling. The process can give you calmness, peace, and effective balance that provide you emotional well-being. At some point, you may carry out your activities without stress after undergoing the meditation process.

You may get stuck in a stressful situation because of the inability to perceive an idea effectively. With meditation, you can have a new perception of stress, and this may help you carry on. Building new skills on the management of stress, increasing general self-awareness, reducing negative emotions, and high levels of creativity are some of the major benefits of meditation.

How Yoga assists in fighting the stressful condition

Stress is unavoidable, and you need to check on your lifestyle to overcome the condition. Prolonged stress can affect your sleep, digestion, social relationship, and sex drive. Yoga can be the best remedy for this kind of situation, and you need to adapt. It is a form of exercise that involves the postures that connect by flowing sequences. The sequence must have the rhythmic breathing, and it ends with the best relaxation of the body and mind.

The physical fitness can be soothing as a hug or a massage. A hug and massage, when combined, reduce the general tension. The forward bends and inversions have that good calming effect when your brain is full of thoughts. The calmness comes when the adrenaline glands soothe and create a comfortable environment.

When you are holding a posture and flowing through the sequences, you can focus and slow down the rate of blood flow in your body. The slow blood flow sequence helps low down the body temperature and reduces the anxious effect. The repeat of these sequences enables you to develop new habits of relaxation.

    Conclusion

The notes above assist you in understanding the effects of yoga, meditation, and CBD to your stressful condition. Stress is like an airborne-diseases because it is everywhere, and the only way to avoid it is to have the best practices. CBD, Yoga, and meditation are cost-effective, and they can act as a remedy to your stressful condition.
