The facts about chemicals, pesticides, and clean water.

  • Toxins In Our Applesauce

On May 5, 2017, national environmental health organization Beyond Pesticides sued Mott’s applesauce under consumer protection law. They are alleging false and misleading claims by the Mott’s brand that their applesauce is “natural” despite evidence showing that it contains a toxic pesticide.

Residues of the neonicotinoid insecticide acetamiprid were found in Mott’s applesauce, says the lawsuit filed by Beyond Pesticides.  Neonicotinoids insecticides are particularly toxic to pollinators, making them harmful to the ecosystem and, of course, dangerous to people.

Mott’s products labeled all natural despite presence of neonicotinoids

The plaintiff Beyond Pesticides claims that the presence of neonicotinoids in their applesauce should disqualify these Mott’s products from being labeled “natural” or as containing “all natural ingredients.”  The case was filed under the Consumer Protection Procedures Act of the District of Columbia against The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, which is the parent company of Mott’s applesauce.

Beyond Pesticides says that using phrases like “all natural” on the packaging is misleading, causing consumers to wrongfully believe the products don’t contain any synthetic or harmful substances.  Persons who buy foods labeled as such often do so in an effort to be healthier and kinder to the ecosystem.

Most consumers believe that buying foods labeled “natural” lowers their exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and ingredients. However, the fact that Mott’s products contain a pesticide that adversely affects pollinators runs counter to what many of these consumers are trying to accomplish. Clearly, this applesauce does not contain all natural ingredients.

Pesticide warning: Toxic food products especially harmful to children

The European Food Safety Authority and scientific literature caution consumers and growers about the effects of neonicotinoid insecticides such as acetamiprid on human health. They are particularly harmful to the health and safety of children who are still developing.

Specifically, scientists say acetamiprid affects key neurons and can cause negative effects to brain development. Kids are naturally at higher risk from pesticide exposure due to their lower relative body weight, and the effects on their developing organs and systems could be quite harmful. The Beyond Pesticides organization is being represented by the Richman Law Group.

It’s common sense: Labeling pesticide-tainted food as “natural” is misleading and undermines the intentions of health-minded shoppers.  In addition, to clearly state the obvious, any food grown with pesticides such as neonicotinoids should not be labeled natural under any circumstances.

Pesticides linked with cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease, developmental disorders and sterility

Pesticides cause around 200,000 deaths per year worldwide and up to 41 million cases of adverse reactions, according to United Nations data. This impact is considered “catastrophic” and is a violation of human rights. Chronic exposure to pesticides has been linked with many types of cancer as well as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, developmental disorders, hormone disruption and sterility.

While the EU has banned the use of neonicotinoids in crops, the U.S. still allows them. Let’s press on for greater awareness of this problem (share this article), so that we realize the day when NO food on supermarket store shelves contains this harmful pesticide.

  • When good hygiene comes with a dose of toxins

HFI: Did you brush your teeth? Did you wash your hands? As moms we ask this to our children about 10 times a day. Depending on the toothpaste and soap your using, you could actually be exposing yourselves to toxic, hormone disrupting triclosan. Here is a pertinent article on the toxin and how to avoid it from EWG.

The chemical was once widely used in these and other personal care products as an antimicrobial agent. Many companies, including Johnson & Johnson and Proctor & Gamble, have removed it from products in recent years. Last year, the federal Food and Drug Administration finally banned triclosan from hand soap, an action for which EWG has long been advocating. But it is still allowed as an ingredient in toothpaste and other consumer products. Colgate continues to use it unnecessarily in its toothpaste.

A study by Brown University researchers, published in May in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, provided some startling evidence about just how much of the chemical can wind up in the bodies of pregnant women, babies and young children.

Scientists tested urine samples of 389 mothers and their children – mothers were tested three times during pregnancy and children were tested periodically between the ages of 1 and 8. The results show that the levels of triclosan in children’s bodies increased as they got older, almost certainly from increased use of both toothpaste and hand soap. Children who washed their hands more than five times a day had levels of triclosan in their urine that were four times higher than those of children who reported washing their hands once a day.

Children who had their urine tested within a day of brushing their teeth had levels 2.5 times higher than those who did not.

In 2008, EWG found triclosan and 15 other toxic chemicals in the blood and urine of 20 teen girls from eight states and the District of Columbia.

In a separate report from the same year, EWG assembled a list of all the products in which triclosan was approved for use.

Here are a few tips from EWG for people interested in avoiding exposure to triclosan.

  • Take Action. Create Your Own No Spray Zone

Are you willing to take responsibility of your own property? Let the government know you want to opt out of their toxic spray program. You have the legal right to opt out of pesticides on your property. Unlike other states, that have to BEG the local authorities to stop poisoning their families, we have the right to OPT-OUT of chemical control/treatments. Invite your neighbors to do the same. Create a spray free safety zone in your neighborhood.

    Unfounded FEAR: West Nile Virus

CDC reports state wide in 2016  6 people tested positive for West Nile Virus and were either symptom-less or were sick with flu like symptoms.  Three individuals were hospitalized with more serious complications. There were NO FATALITIES. CDC reports that COMPLICATIONS from West Nile Virus are VERY, VERY RARE less than 1% of individuals actually experience complications from West Nile Virus.

CDC RECORDS show that since 2002 less than a dozen people a year experience complications from the virus, with the exceptions of the unexplained outbreak in 2006 of two hundred plus cases. Ever since the 2006 outbreak anomaly, the government has be monitoring and spraying neighborhoods. Many times spray trucks drive-by unannounced catching families and pets in their path. The County has admitted they have a hard time ‘getting the word out’ of an impending area spray and proceed with truck based spraying in neighborhoods and play areas in the early summer evenings, just as the weather cools for the day.

    Hazardous Pesticides:

Ada County’s Mosquito Abatement website reveals they use Dibrom, which is an organophosphate insecticide with the active ingredient Naled. Naled, a KNOWN neurotoxin is banned in many other countries. Recently scientists have expressed concerns about its affect on our babies in utero as it passes to the fetus through the placenta.

Canyon County Mosquito Abatement website reveals they use Permithrin that has shown to have the following effects on humans:

    • Cancer: Possible (10)
    • Endocrine Disruption: Yes (5)
    • Reproductive Effects: Yes (13)
    • Neurotoxicity: Yes (11)
    • Kidney/Liver Damage: Yes (11)
    • Sensitizer/ Irritant: Yes (4)

    OPT OUT:

You have the legal right to opt out of pesticides on your property. Unlike other states, that have to BEG the local authorities to stop poisoning their families, we have the right to OPT-OUT of chemical control/treatments.

In 2007, the Idaho Legislature revised Idaho Code to include a new provision that allows residents living within a Mosquito Abatement District to opt-out of the district’s control/treatment program. As outlined in § 39-2804(10) of Idaho Code, a landowner requesting to exclude his property from the abatement district’s mosquito control program must submit a written Mosquito Management Plan specific to his property.  The detailed plan must provide adequate control measures and be implemented by the landowner

MOSQUITO ABATEMENT DISTRICTS OPT OUT FORMS can be hard to locate it might requiring calling the Mosquito Abatement Department for your county/city/area

  • Zika Feared – Neurotoxin Sprayed

Zika no longer a global emergency and yet, the pesticide spraying of known neurotoxins continues in Florida.

According to a new study out, naled- the pesticide widely used to fight Zika-carrying mosquitoes in Florida and across the nation- has been linked to deficits in motor functions in Chinese babies. Authors of the study say it’s the first to examine real-world exposure to naled outside of workplace accidents or lab experiments. The University of Michigan study was published in the journal Environment International.

    RELATED ARTICLES:

Using cord blood from 237 mothers who gave birth to healthy babies at a hospital in southeast China between 2008 and 2011, researchers found that at six weeks, the babies displayed no problems. However, at nine months, the babies suffered from slight problems with coordination, movement, and other motor functions. Miami Herald, June 2017.”>1 (Researchers used standard motor-skill tests that look at reflexes, body control, movement, and hand and eye coordination to assess problems; as exposure to naled increased, deficits also rose.)

Although the study was only a close snapshot of a particular group of mothers, the authors rightly pointed out the need to take a closer look at using naled.

Naled has been used for decades in Florida to control marsh mosquitoes. It’s sprayed by plane “mostly over suburban fringes bordering marshes and mangroves before dawn.” However, last year (thanks to people like YOU) it drew more attention and quick opposition when Miami-Dade County and other urban areas “battling Zika” started using it: Miami Herald, June 2017.”>2

    • In South Florida, protesters prompted the county to put off using the pesticide in Miami Beach to give the city more time to notify residents.
    • Federal officials backed off a plan to use naled in Puerto Rico after its governor protested.
    • Europe had already banned naled in 2012.
    • But of course, the CDC recommended its use in combination with organic larvicides that kill mosquito eggs in standing water.

But, back to China. How did women end up with the poison in their cord blood? Especially given the fact that Amvac, the U.S. manufacturer of the pesticide, has no record of selling naled in China?

“Silver said it was impossible to determine how the Chinese mothers ended up with naled in their blood, although she suspected it was used on crops or mosquito spraying. The team used cord blood collected between 2008 and 2011 by co-author Betsy Lozoff for another study that looked at iron deficiency and brain development. They found a number of pesticides but focused on five that occurred in traceable levels.” Miami Herald, June 2017.”>3

  • Diet Soda DANGERS

Diet Soda Destroys Your Body. Aspartame kills. Over 91 symptoms were documented by FDA before they stopped taking reports. Aspartame interacts with hormones. Dr. James Bowen has written a lot on aspartame and lupus. He says aspartame turns your immune system against your body. The formaldehyde embalms the proteins and makes them strange to the immune system. Your immune system attacks your own body because it considers your own denatured protein as an antigen. This generates the false information fed into the immune system that your own proteins are to be attacked. Then any other insults, mental, physical, immunological can stimulate the immune attack and the immune attack is lupus!

    Selena Gomez has lupus.
    She drinks Diet Coke. 1

Michael J. Fox is said to have Parkinson’s.
He was “Mr. Diet Pepsi” 1987. 2

Heath Ledger drank diet soda. He’s dead.

John Ritter drank diet soda. He’s dead.

Annette (you old Mousketeers know of her) drank diet soda and she died of MS.

1 Selena Gomez advertises Diet Coke and has lupus.. I wrote about it recently and added an email to the CDC which went into exactly how aspartame can precipitate lupus. http://www.mpwhi.com/selena_gomez_and_aspartame.htm
Michael Jackson was another advertiser of diet pop and had lupus.

2 Michael Fox advertised Diet Pepsi and has Parkinson’s.
Cher used it and has Epstein Barr. We did get to her before she signed a $900,000 deal to continue advertising Equal. She quit immediately. It has become so epidemic the Epstein Barr Assoc changed their name to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Lucky Vanous, the Diet Coke hunk who advertised Diet Coke was fortunately in Atlanta and I was able to get information to him. Fifty-eight days later Lucky was on Hardcopy and gone from Coke. Later Hardcopy was cancelled.

  • Science is Settled. Really?

In most aspects of our lives, we think it rational to make decisions based on incomplete information. Our beliefs, our reactions are based on flawed theories and manipulated facts. Science is never settled. It can’t be. So then, how do we make decisions and judgements about what is right for our families, our society and our future.

  • 36% of Idaho Water is Contaminated

Did you know that 32% of Idaho’s citizens are forced to drink water contaminated with a known neurotoxin? 16 YEARS ago, scientist declared that fluoride does NOT help with tooth decay. 2 years ago, scientist declare #Fluoride is a #Neurotoxin! Our communities still ADD IT to the water! Its DOES NOT HAVE to be that way! Local communities have the power to stop add fluoride to the water.

Local communities make decisions to add or remove it from the water. Take a look at your water supply!
Join your neighbors and get the City Council to stop the contamination of your local water!
    Don’t wait for someone else!
Of course you can get a fluoride removing filter for yourself, but what about when your kids go to school and drink from the fountains. What about the local restaurants that serves you a glass of iced water?  Protect your WHOLE COMMUNITY!

  • Dangers of Spray Sunscreen

Spray-on sunscreen is SO dangerous! Not only is it flammable, but it may be harmful to your skin and lungs (and overall health). Don’t let your kids be guinea pigs in this experiment – the FDA has been deciding since 2011 whether spray sunscreens are safe, and in the meantime, the market is exploding with them!

Two greatest risks of the active ingredients in conventional sunscreens are:

    • hormone disruptors that act as estrogen in the body after being absorbed through the skin and are also potent allergens for some children
    • free radicals (cancer-causing!) formed when the sunscreen reacts chemically with the sun

If it’s not safe for your skin, it’s certainly not safe for your lungs. Ditch the sprays!

  • Coca-Cola: Nigerian Court Deems It Unfit For Human Consumption

A Nigerian court has ruled that two Coca-Cola products, Fanta and Sprite, are not safe for human consumption. Presiding Nigerian judge Justice Adedayo Oyebanji ruled that high levels of benzoic acid and sunset additives in Fanta and Sprite pose a serious health risk to consumers when mixed with ascorbic acid, commonly known as vitamin C. UK regulators have stated that benzoic acid can form the carcinogen benzene when combined with ascorbic acid. This means that the drinks could cause cancer.

The court also ordered the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) – a member of Coca-Cola Hellenic group which bottles Coca-Cola products in Nigeria – to place written warnings on the bottles of the two drinks, saying the drinks pose a health risk. This means the two drinks would carry warning labels like cigarettes.

Further, the court imposed financial costs of two million naira ($6,350) against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for failing to ensure health standards in the country.

“It is manifest that NAFDAC has been grossly irresponsible in its regulatory duties to the consumers of Fanta and Sprite manufactured by Nigeria Bottling Company. NAFDAC has failed the citizens of this great nation by its certification as satisfactory for human consumption products … which become poisonous in the presence of ascorbic acid,” Justice Oyebanji said in his ruling.

In fact, the Nigerian public wouldn’t have had this relief ruling aimed at protecting their lives had something not gone wrong between a businessman and the NBC. Read more about that case at CNN

Following the ruling, Nigerian citizens took to social media to express their dissatisfaction of all Coca-Cola products. Many lashed out at NAFDAC for handling consumer safety in the country poorly. They accused the agency of placing more priority on generating revenues than protecting citizens.

Some also accused NAFDAC for being responsible for numerous health problems and deaths because it allows corporations to sell poison to the public. The majority of citizens called for a boycott against all Coca-Cola products in the country to serve as a deterrent to other unscrupulous corporations taking advantage of endemic corruption to kill the public. The ruling has dented the image of Coca-Cola in the country. The company is likely to suffer losses this year because the scandal will remain in the minds of citizens for a long time to come. – From Truth Theory.

  • Aluminum eliminating the bad and ugly

Our bodies are exposed to pollutants before we’re even born. Many pollutants, like the ones in our air, are unavoidable. But there are many toxins that we can choose to avoid. Aluminum is one of those toxins. Unlike vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, the body does not need aluminum. And aluminum is no innocent or benign participant. Aluminum accumulates in the kidneys, brain, lungs, liver and thyroid where it competes with calcium for absorption and can affect skeletal mineralization. In infants, this can slow growth. Animal models have linked aluminum exposure to mental impairments. [1]

The scary truth about aluminum is that it is found in so many things in our world and it is toxic to our bodies, even in small amounts. From household products to vaccinations, aluminum pervades our lifestyle, and if not monitored closely, can easily make its way into our bodies causing lasting, harmful effects.

    ALUMINUM IS FOUND IN:

    THE DANGERS OF ALUMINUM

    • Why is Aluminum Exposure Harmful?

Just as cigarette smoke damages lung function and overexposure to UV rays will degrade your skin, aluminum is an attacker and its target is your central nervous system. [2]Studies show that toxic metals contribute to brain diseases by producing oxidative stress and aluminum is one of the worst offenders. [1] The prevailing belief around the world is that aluminum is linked to degenerative brain diseases:

      • linked to Alzheimers
      • epilepsy
      • dementia
      • osteomalacia
      • ADD
      • chronic fatigue syndrome

It makes sense, research shows aluminum can produce toxic, oxidative stress in the brain and a brain autopsy study of elderly persons found them to have aluminum levels 20+ times higher than a middle-aged group. [3] [4] The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recognizes aluminum as one of several metals known to affect the neurological system. [5] As far as aluminum is concerned, the supreme brain-health concern is Alzheimer’s disease.

    • AVOIDING ALUMINUM
Aluminum is one of the most abundant metals on earth and it has permeated mainstream products to the degree that it’s virtually impossible to completely avoid exposure. However, you can take certain measures to reduce your exposure.

      • Avoid using disposable aluminum pans for cooking. Use glass pans for baking, stoneware for cookie sheets, and cast-iron for stove-top cooking.
      • Do not wrap food in foil to cook in oven or on grill. Potatoes bake just fine with no wrapping at all on oven rack.
      • Don’t use deodorant that contains aluminum. Try using baking soda (as long as it is aluminum-free, too) or buy all-natural, aluminum-free deodorant, or make your own.
      • Read all labels on food and pay attention to packaging. Acidic foods in aluminum cans react, causing the aluminum to leach into the contents of the can.
      • Use all-natural shampoos, soaps, lotions, and cosmetics.
      • Avoid aluminum-containing antacids. Try natural remedies for heartburn and indigestion like sipping a glass of water with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, eat fresh pineapple or papaya, chew a sprig of parsley, drink a cup of peppermint tea, drink aloe vera, or coconut water, or milk.
