The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of connected smart objects that will be boosted by 5G technology, which will, in turn enhance the connectivity of our homes, offices, and cities. However, the widespread use of IoT and 5G technology can raise ethical and social concerns, such as privacy concerns. The use of IoT sensors can track personal data, which can be used for targeted advertising or other purposes. The increase of 5G connections is a concern to those with special needs and autoimmune diseases who have electromagnetic sensitivity. However, IoT and 5G claim they can help people live more independently by enabling remote monitoring of health conditions and providing telehealth services.
Without a doubt, the combination of IoT and 5G technology will transform the way people live and work. However, the widespread adoption of 5G technology by healthcare systems can also raise concerns about cybersecurity and privacy.
The information session at Hayden Library on August 12 at 3:00 will discuss these and other questions related to IoT and 5G technology, including the impact on privacy, independence, and health, as well as the validity of the safety of 5G on our bodies.

Apeel, a mysterious Bill Gates and World Economic Forum-backed food coating that makes rotting produce appear fresh, is approved for use on USDA Organic produce under the name Organipeel. A new food coating called Apeel, backed by Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum, has appeared on shelves in Idaho and is approved for use on USDA Organic produce under the name Organipeel. The coating is invisible and can’t be washed off, and it makes rotting produce appear fresh. Apeel has a presence in 8 countries, operating 30 supply networks and distributing produce to 40 retail partners, which then goes out to tens of thousands of stores around the world, including Trader Joes, Costco, Walmart, and Albertsons. The company says they have developed ‘solutions’ for limes, mandarins, apples, and oranges, and other applications to follow include “everything from asparagus to pineapples, mangoes, lemons and tomatoes”. However, its primary ingredient is Mono- and diglycerides contain trans-fat, which promotes inflammation in the body and has been associated with heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and obesity.
Below is an excerpt from the Organic Material Review (OMRI) article on Apeel. Call to Action included!
The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) gave it the green light, presumably based on citric acid being the active ingredient. Citric acid is a non-organic ingredient allowed in organic as long as it isn’t synthetic, but it’s only 0.66 percent of the Organipeel formulation!
At first blush, concerns about Apeel seemed like fake news. Fact-checkers were quick to point out that the safety data sheet circulating the internet was for a different product with the same name, not for the edible food coating backed by Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum that was raising hackles on social media.
But, when members of the Organic Consumers Association alerted us to news that Apeel’s is being used in organic, we had to investigate. The main ingredient in Apeel is monoacylglycerides. The industrial process they use to extract monoacylglycerides from grape seed leaves residues of ethyl acetate, heptane, palladium, arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury.
How big of a food safety concern is Apeel?
Given everything else Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum expect us to swallow or inject, we can’t be too skeptical, but are the problems with Apeel on the same level as other food safety concerns?
Is it as important to avoid Apeel as it is to reject genetically engineered foods? Toxic pesticides? Factory-farmed animal products laced with livestock drugs, including mRNA vaccines? Indigestible insects? Lab-grown meat-replacements?
Our conclusion is that Apeel carries the same health problems as similar preservatives commonly used to extend the shelf-life of ultra-processed food. On that basis alone, we advise avoiding Apeel, including the version used on Starr Ranch’s organic apples, known as Organipeel.
The Weston A. Price Foundation wrote an informative article about Apeel back in 2018, “Is Apeel Appealing?” that concluded:
Do our foods need to be traveling on boats for months at a time before sitting on shelves even longer? And what about the nutritional value of our foods? Will it be affected by Apeel, and does that matter to us? Is Apeel’s “second skin” even appealing?
Ultimately, the arrival of Apeel in the marketplace can serve to remind us of the many reasons to eat local, traditional, organic, biodynamic and chemical-free foods.
That’s the most important takeaway. Nowhere does anyone claim that Apeel does anything to maintain nutrient density.
The arrival of Apeel in the marketplace reminds us of the many reasons to prioritize our purchase and consumption of local, traditionally produced, organic (check with suppliers to see if they are using Apeel products), biodynamic and chemical-free foods wherever possible.

Boise Parks and Recreation Expands Pesticide Reduction Efforts, Promotes Environmental Health and Safety. Send a quick ‘thank you’ email to the agency supporting their efforts to create a healthier and safer community parks. parks@cityofboise.org
Boise Parks and Recreation has started a pilot program to reduce pesticide use in the city’s parks, which is a step in the right direction. Glyphosate, a common herbicide used to reduce dandelions and other broadleaf plants, has been named as a culprit in cancer cases. Some case-control studies have shown a positive association between exposure to glyphosate and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In January 2023, a study found that people exposed to glyphosate have cancer biomarkers in their urine.
Non-Toxic Idaho and Health Freedom Idaho have been advocating for years for the parks to consider reducing the application of chemicals in areas where children and pets play. Boise Parks and Recreation is a step in the right direction in protecting the health of our families.
The environmental benefits of the first flower dandelions for the bees are also worth noting. The sight of the dandelions and “wish flowers” is a beautiful thing, and it’s great to see the agency taking steps to protect the environment and the health of its residents. Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway said, “Today, more than 60 parks in our system are active pesticide reduction sites.” This is a great achievement, and the agency deserves a thank you!
If you would like to send a note of gratitude, you can do so by emailing parks@cityofboise.org or mailing a letter to Boise Parks and Recreation, 1104 Royal Blvd, Boise, ID 83706.
DANDELIONS ARE GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT & HAVE MEDICINAL BENEFITS
Hard as it is to believe considering the time, energy, and money devoted to obliterating them from our yards, dandelions have roots that spread widely underground, which has the beneficial effects of loosening hard-packed soil, aerating the ground, and reducing erosion. 123 Because their roots grow so deeply, they also help pull nutrients from deep within the soil up to ground level, which makes them more readily available to other plants, like your lawn, which has more shallow roots. 12
In addition to being good for your lawn, dandelions are also nutritious.
The leafy greens of the dandelion plant are quite healthy, rich in vitamin A and vitamin B12, according to the Michigan State University Extension. 2 Eating just 1 cup of the greens has twice as much iron as the same amount of spinach and contains more than 500 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin K. Dandelion roots and flowers are also edible, although they are not as commonly eaten as the greens. 2
For centuries, various parts of the dandelion plant have been used medicinally.
They were long used to create tonics that people drank to help the liver remove toxins from their bloodstream, and dandelions have also been used to treat ailments ranging from warts to the plague, according to Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners. 3 Even today, herbalists use dandelions to improve human health, because it both works as a natural diuretic and also helps our digestive systems function optimally. 4
CANCER and GLYPHOSATE aka ROUND-UP LAWSUITS
The first lawsuits were filed in 2015 shortly after the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. In 2018, one of the first cases went to trial where a jury found in favor of a California school groundskeeper who used Roundup frequently for many years. The plaintiff’s lawyers showed he was exposed to glyphosate, and the jury found that the use of Roundup caused the individual’s cancer. Most lawsuits against Monsanto and, subsequently, Bayer, have been settled. However, some cases are still ongoing, and Bayer has asked the court to dismiss some of the lawsuits. In July 2022, the 11th Circuit ruled that Bayer had failed to adequately warn about the risk of cancer from Roundup.
EPA and BAYER, the producers of glyphosate claim there is no risk and the product can be used safely. Some case-control studies have shown a positive association between exposure to glyphosate and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In January 2023, a study found that people exposed to glyphosate have cancer biomarkers in their urine.
Non-ionizing radiation from smart meters is transmitted continually 24/7 and penetrates the walls and into our homes, schools, and businesses; the radiation emitted from the power source is a cause for concern, especially for families with members who are elderly and the immune suppressed.
The radiation is a by-product of the power source and is emitted constantly. Over time, this radiation can wear down the cell’s protective exterior membrane, leading to cellular damage and DNA changes. The closer you are to the EMF source, the stronger the emission.
There is an extensive literature database with an inventory of 38,224 publications and 6,994 summaries of individual scientific studies on the effects of electromagnetic fields. Smart is a marketing term used by industry to psychologically steer consumers to adopt these devices — inferring “smart” is a good choice when it is not. However, some people choose to opt out of smart meters as a precautionary measure.
Our bodies need a break from the wi-fi radiation we are constantly bathed in. Suppose smart meters and other devices are emitting radiation 24/7. In that case, it can be harmful to our cells, disrupt our circadian rhythm, and impair the required cell repair and regeneration while we sleep, which otherwise keeps us healthy. The result is a toxic build-up that shows up sooner rather than later in some behavioral problems that look like ADD or Autism, sleep disruption, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, nausea, nosebleeds, skin rashes/flushing, and more. The long-term accumulative effects may include cancers, infertility, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and more. *Biological and Health Affects

OPTION TO OPT-OUT
Smart Meter Options in Idaho
Even if you’re concerned about the potential health effects of smart meters, it is not possible to opt out of having one installed in your home in Idaho. Idaho started rolling out smart meters in 2008, and by 2011, almost all of Idaho Power’s 485,000 customers had “smart” electric meters installed.
Most of Idaho utility companies will not offer opt-out programs that allow you to keep your analog meter or have a non-transmitting digital meter installed instead of a smart meter. While opting out may come with additional fees, it may be worth it if it provides peace of mind.
Final Thoughts Smart meters are a convenient way to monitor your home’s energy consumption and eliminate the need for manual meter readings. While there are concerns about the EMF radiation emitted from smart meters, the RF radiation is low and only transmitted for short periods of time.
Ultimately, the decision to opt out of a smart meter is a personal one. If you’re concerned about the potential health effects of EMF radiation, it’s worth researching and considering all options available to you.
“The evidence presented to the Board includes well over one thousand peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies which consistently find that pulsed and modulated RFR has bio-effects and can lead to short- and long-term adverse health effects in humans…Credible, independent peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies show profoundly deleterious effects on human health, including but not limited to: neurological and dermatological effects; increased risk of cancer and brain tumors; DNA damage; oxidative stress; immune dysfunction; cognitive processing effects; altered brain development, sleep and memory disturbances, ADHD, abnormal behavior, sperm dysfunction, and damage to the blood-brain barrier.”
The Order also details how the Board met with Verizon but the information and testimony provided by Verizon Wireless did not convince them and the Board asserted that the Verizon safety expert lacked qualifications regarding medical issues. “Now, therefore, the Pittsfield Board of Health hereby FINDS AND ORDERS as follows: 1. The Verizon Wireless 877 South Street wireless facility operated by Verizon Wireless is a public nuisance, a cause of sickness, and a trade which may result in a nuisance or be dangerous to the public health…”

COVID-19 VACCINE MANUFACTURERS ARE EXEMPT FROM LIABILITY
According to the CDC, all vaccines have the potential to cause injury or death. On February 4, 2020, the Secretary of HHS invoked the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness act (PREP Act) and declared COVID-19 to be a public health emergency, warranting liability protection for covered countermeasures, which includes vaccination. If an individual is injured or killed by a COVID-19 vaccine, the manufacturer cannot be held liable per the PREP Act. The only possible recourse should you or a loved one suffer injury or death is to pursue compensation through the Countermeasure Injury Compensation Program, which has a difficult threshold for proving a relationship between an injury and the vaccine, a short statute of limitations, no avenue for appeals and doesn’t pay damages for pain or suffering.
The liability exempt status for vaccine manufacturers is not new. Pharmaceutical companies have enjoyed their liability free status for all vaccinations on the CDC schedule since the passage of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. After large numbers of lawsuits were brought forth for injuries and deaths resulting from the DPT vaccine, Congress passed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act to protect pharmaceutical companies from liability specifically for vaccines. No other product or industry is protected from liability for injury and death in this way.
Without any liability, what incentive is there to ensure the vaccine is as safe as possible?
PARENTS! Have you wondered about the risk to our children when they are forced to breathe their own viral and bacterial exhaust for hours on end? Have you seen the statistics that show that their risk of the virus to their overall well being is outrageously small? Are you still following orders and masking your family?
Guy Guy Crittenden, who, for 25 years, edited the trade journal HazMat Management has published an article regarding his deep concerns about masks. We are sharing his insight with his permission.
____ I happen to know a thing or two about masks and safety. Why? Because for 25 years I was the editor of an award-winning trade magazine called HazMat Management that covered such topics as pollution prevention and compliance with health & safety laws. We routinely published articles on masks, gloves, respirators, and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Now let me tell you a few things about that mask you’re wearing. And please note that what I’m about to share was also stated in the most recent edition of Del Bigtree’s program The Highwire when two OSHA mask experts spoke to the fact that the kinds of masks people are wearing were never (never!) designed to be worn for long periods and doing so is very harmful.
1. Masks are “sterilized” with Ethylene Oxide — a known carcinogen. Many teachers in various school boards have been experiencing significant symptoms as a direct result of the effects of this chemical.
2. The masks contain (not sprayed with) PTFE which makes up Teflon along with other chemicals.
I found and have posted the US patent to allow manufacturers to use PTFE as a filter in commercial masks… breathing these for extended periods can lead to lung cancer.”
Don’t agree? Argue with the experts at OSHA, which is the main US agency, i.e., its Occupational Health & Safety Agency. These masks are meant to be worn only for short periods, like say if you’re sanding a table for an hour and don’t want to inhale sawdust.
They don’t do anything whatsoever to stop the spread of any virus, and the emerging science of virology now understands that viruses aren’t even passed from person to person.
I know that sounds incredible, but it’s the case that the virus is in the air, you breathe it in, there’s no way to prevent that short of living in an oxygen tent, and if you have a strong immune system you’ll be fine, and if you have a weak immune system you may have to deal with the effects of your immune system working to restore balance within your metabolism.
So let’s say you don’t wear the blue packaged masks, and instead wear a homemade cloth mask — the kind people wear over and over and hang on their rearview mirror and so on.
Those masks are completely useless against a virus, and are also very dangerous. OSHA would never condone a person wearing a mask of this kind for anything more than the shortest time. Re-breathing your own viral debris is dangerous to health, and the oxygen deprivation children suffer wearing such masks all day will certainly cause brain damage. I’m not making this up.
Again, you might say, well, Guy you’re not a doctor. True, but I did edit that magazine for 25 years. That’s a long time and many articles on masks and PPE. I’ve attended numerous OH&S conferences and listened to experts discussing these matters.
You may hear people saying that surgeons and nurses wear masks like this all day. Um, no. No, they don’t. They’re trained in the proper use of masks, which is to wear them in the OR, then dispose of the mask when they leave that room. Are you aware that operating rooms are actually supplied extra oxygen, to compensate for the reduction in oxygen flow from mask-wearing?
To my mind, it’s criminal (not hyperbole) to force children to wear masks all day. Setting aside the very real psychological effects, we’re going to have a generation of brain-damaged children. Ever heard the expression, “Not enough oxygen at birth?” That’s a joke at the expense of a mentally challenged person, but that’s literally what we’re doing. And we’re told it’s to “keep us safe”! We’re told this by doctors who actually don’t know about PPE and laypeople who have no clue.
So, you can choose to believe me or not, but I was the editor for a quarter-century of a magazine that had a strong occupational health and safety mandate, and I can tell you that the mask-wearing currently mandated by governments and private businesses offers no health benefit whatsoever, in no way protects you or anyone else from any virus, and actually, does you damage beyond wearing it for a few minutes.
Guy Crittenden
Got that? Good. Now please share this message and get the conversation going with parents, who must end this masking of children immediately. This is a very serious matter. And related to that, let me just state this doesn’t end for me when the lockdown ends or the masking ends.
No, this ends for me when every politician and bureaucrat who inflicted this travesty, this crime against humanity, on the population, is in the dock, and faces their misdeeds in a court of law!
END NOTE: The CDC and WHO have acknowledged that asymptomatic people do not spread the virus, so the case for masks for such people is moot in the first place.”

I have to say, as the meeting went on I became quite unimpressed. In fact, it sounded like I was listening to high schoolers.
Most surprisingly, when the topic turned to masks, the board didn’t ask for any hard data on their efficacy.
Let me explain.
During the meeting. Jim Sousa, Chief Medical Officer of St. Luke’s Heath Care System, was one of the guests on hand to give information and answer questions.
Sousa said it was important we do something, because earlier in the year, their hospital in Idaho’s Blaine County had to shut down because half the staff went out sick and under quarantine with Covid, and it looked like Covid cases in Ada County (home of Boise / the State Capitol) might resemble what happened in Blaine County.
Sousa then gave anecdotal evidence as he advocated for masks.
For example, he told a story about a couple of hairdressers in a southern state who had COVID, but because they wore masks, none of their clients became infected.
At that point, the question I wanted to ask was, “If masks work that well, why didn’t they prevent the hospital staff in Blaine County from catching Covid?” But it was a virtual meeting and there was no opportunity for questions.
Souza also stated that none of the recent spike in Covid cases came from the George Floyd protests, “because from what I saw, over half of the protesters were wearing masks.”
How’s THAT for science?
I should point out that this is the same Jim Souza who wrote an op-ed that appeared earlier this year in many Idaho papers, informing us that the virus “lies in wait. It likes crowds. It picks on the vulnerable. It waits for us to lose our focus. And then it moves in,” as if the virus were sentient.
No evaluation of the pros and cons
Amazingly, NONE of the CDH board members asked ANY tough questions of the hospital representatives on hand.
And like I said, no hard science on masks was presented. One would expect a board of this stature – making a decision that will impact 500,000+ people – to demand (& evaluate) hard data on the PROS & CONS of wearing masks.
Nope. Nothing.
Also, during his time speaking to the CDH board, Souza said that treatment for Covid in Idaho hasn’t changed much. He listed all the drugs & treatments being used, and NEVER ONCE mentioned hydroxycholoroquine, zinc, or azithromycin. The HCQ/zinc/azithromycin treatment, also known as the #ZelenkoProtocol, has been proven to clear Covid symptoms in people within 8 – 12 hours of starting the protocol.
This begs a deadly serious question. WHY are Idaho’s doctors NOT using the Zelenko Protocol? Do they still think “orange man bad?” Do they not realize that all the articles slamming HCQ as dangerous have been proven wrong & that multiple studies have shown HCQ to be safe & effective for treating Covid?
If Idaho’s doctors are letting Covid patients die without putting them on the #ZelenkoProtocol, and if our Central District Health board isn’t recommending that Idaho’s doctors look into the Zelenko Protocol, then both the doctors and the CDH board have blood on their hands.
Could it be that these hospitals would rather admit a Covid patient and collect large sums of cash for doing so instead of prescribing a valid, $20 treatment?
They will no doubt vehemently deny any such motivation, but the way Idaho’s government went all Jekyll-Hyde since $1.25 billion came our way in March / April, I have serious questions.
So what’s the next step?
The CDH board voted for CDH Director Russ Duke to draft a Mandatory Mask recommendation for Ada County, and possibly Valley County.
Yes, Idaho’s Central District Health board plans on making facemasks mandatory in Ada County, Idaho because a chief medical officer gave anecdotal stories yet had ZERO hard evidence for mask efficacy.
The Board didn’t examine any other evidence at the board meeting. None. Zip. Ziltch. Nada.
It really was like listening to high schoolers. There were so many holes in Souza’s talking points, a high school debate coach would have laughed him out of the room. And the fact that the board didn’t seek to weigh evidence from both sides of the issue was equally laughable if it weren’t so sad.
It was obvious most of the CDH board had already made up their mind to vote for mandatory masks, evidence be damned. Without waiting for the board to discuss or make a motion, CDH Director Russ Duke eagerly said he would write up a mandatory mask rule if the board wanted it.
Almost immediately after him saying that, board member District 1 Ada County Commissioner Diana Lachiondo gushed over the fact that Duke spent so much time on the phone with her this past week. At that point, it became quite apparent that this meeting was merely a formality to invoke a decision they had already reached.
Only one board member, Representative Megan Blanksma, seemed to want more consideration of facts. Thankfully, when it became obvious the board was getting carried away and about to make a decision on a far-reaching mandate concerning schools, Blanksma wisely jumped in to curtail it.
CDH Board Faux Pas
As a side note, earlier in the meeting the board went offline for a while to confer with legal counsel in executive session, because last week’s private board meeting (when they first voted to take Ada County back to Level 3) was in violation of the state’s open meeting law. As a result, when they came out of executive session, the board voided the minutes of their last meeting!
Of course, then they had to vote again to put Ada County back into Stage 3, but in so doing they also added the rule that no meetings of more than 50 people would be allowed. So much for church services!
And I think there was less than 60 seconds of discussion on this issue.
To wrap up their meeting, the CDH board voted to instruct CDH Director Russ Duke to draft an order that all of Ada County, Idaho MUST wear masks when in public and in enclosed places. No timeline was discussed for how long that might last, and board member Ted Epperly included plenty of undefined terms in his motion. And they will include masks for children, too, because even though their infection rate is phenomenally low, Souza thought it would be a good idea.
Bottom line, the board came off looking like a rubber stamp for whatever Jim Souza recommended.
It would be good to get the CDH board to CONSIDER ACTUAL SCIENCE at their next meeting. Maybe – JUST MAYBE – Idaho’s CDH will act like professionals & carefully consider both pro and con evidence before deciding any rule that will affect 500,000+ Idahoans.
Treat Our Covid Patients Better!
Idaho also needs to stop the politics and get our Covid patients treated with the Zelenko Protocol. There is rarely a reason for people to be hospitalized for Covid if they begin the Zelenko Protocol within five days of symptom onset. And with that, the hospitals would NOT be dealing with Covid patients, and there would be no need to consider mandatory masks.
Per the peer-reviewed research, there’s no need to wait for a test result to start the Zelenko Protocol, just prescribe the protocol on clinical suspicion. If our Idaho doctors and our CDH board cannot fathom that this protocol works, then we need more open-minded doctors and a better-informed Central District Health board.
As it stands, this board meeting was unimpressive. We’ve had enough knee-jerk decisions the past four months. I hope to see more professionalism and a more balanced examination of facts at their next meeting.
Health Freedom Idaho wants to thank author Daniel Bobinski for allowing us to share his report of the virtual meeting by the Central Health Department
Health Freedom Idaho encourages readers to TAKE ACTION.
Start by EMAILING your Mayor and those of your surrounding cities. The Health Departments have failed to consider the lack of safety and effectiveness of paper masks, bandanas, and face coverings as protection from a virus. Tell them you do not want them to mandate masks allowing each citizen their own body autonomy and the freedom to maintain their personal responsibility when it comes to health. Here are some resources to review and share: https://hfi.designbyparrish.com/mask-mandates

The normal breathing process is when you inhale, you are breathing in oxygen. When you exhale, you are breathing out carbon dioxide/CO2. By prolonged use of masks, you are disrupting the normal airway, breathing process, and inhaling excessive carbon dioxide/CO2 instead of oxygen.
Carbon dioxide is classified as an asphyxiant gas. Are these required face coverings safe? According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration here are safe CO2 level working conditions.
Carbon dioxide levels and potential health problems are indicated below:
250-350 ppm: background (normal) outdoor air level.
350-1,000 ppm: typical level found in occupied spaces with good air exchange
1,000-2,000 ppm: level associated with complaints of drowsiness and poor air
2,000-5,000 ppm: level associated with headaches, sleepiness, and stagnant, stale, stuffy air; poor concentration, loss of attention, increased heart rate and slight nausea may also be present.
> 5,000 ppm: This indicates unusual air conditions were high levels of other gases also could be present. Toxicity or oxygen deprivation could occur. This is the permissible exposure limit for daily workplace exposures.
What are the CO2 levels for an 11 yr old child wearing different types of masks and face shield, not exerting himself, just sitting?
– N95 mask – 8,486 and then up to 10,000 and beyond, so high it went to an immeasurable range for the device. – Surgical mask – 8,934 + – Face Shield – 1,541 + – Bandana – 9,557 +
From OSHA website “Carbon dioxide is classified as an asphyxiant gas. In the atmosphere, CO2 normally exists at concentrations between 300 and 700 ppm. Larger gas-phase concentrations of CO2 may produce signs and symptoms of increased respiratory rate, lassitude, sleepiness, headache, convulsions, dyspnea, sweating, dizziness, or narcosis. Literature citations reveal a wide variation in the physiological response to exposures at certain CO2” From The Highwire with Del Bigtree.
Countries where schools opened. There was no spike. Children are very unlikely to contract or transmit the virus.

“Of course you must wear a mask…all the time if possible. How else do you expect to avoid the disease; it’s airborne, y’know. All the experts agree, from Dr. Fauci to the CDC and the WHO and anybody who’s anybody. Even our political leaders – except for Trump and the Surgeon General and a few of their friends – and these leaders have so much more information than we do.”
All this is part of the creed of scientism – as opposed to science. Scientism is a religious faith that says we should obey so-called experts because they are experts. Demonstrations of expertise are for the doubters; we obey Dr. Fauci’s exhortation to wear the mask because he is Dr. Fauci. Most governors and mayors obey him – and the CDC guidelines – for the same reason. Actual science tells a different story.
There are essentially four ways to contract a virus according to Scott Alexander in the Slate Star Codex, March 23, 2020. They are contact, touching an infected person; droplet, contacting liquefied particles through sneezing, spitting, talking, or coughing; airborne, transiting particles lingering in air before dropping to the ground; and fomite, touching contaminated objects. A fifth way is called aerosol, is a combination of contact with airborne or droplet particles.
All contacts are not equal; particles must penetrate the body in sufficient numbers to attain a critical mass for infection. This varies depending on the immune system of the contaminated person. The issue, however, is whether the acolytes of scientism are correct to demand the public wear masks as a protective measure. In fact, they are wrong…dead wrong.
Alexander reviewed the literature and concluded – as did the Centers for Disease Control and Dr. Fauci himself as recently as March – any masks below the grade of the N-95 respirator were essentially useless for protecting wearers from COVID-19.
This was essentially due to the fact masks do not create a seal around facial entry points, although CDC and Fauci believed they did protect others from the wearer’s own discharges. (Masks do not even cover the eyes.) The article asserts the N-95 is effective for two-way protection against airborne and aerosol contamination but specifies only when worn by trained professionals. It overlooks or underplays factors that negate even these modest claims.
For example, the studies Alexander reviewed claim masks reduce – without eliminating – particle penetration. However, there were numerous admitted “confounders” in the studies – factors that invalidate results because they ignore variables over which researchers had no control. This is the same issue cited by Fauci and company to challenge hydroxychloroquine with the exception HCQ is currently in clinical trials that account for confounding factors.
Drs. Karlfeldt and Couchman, practicing in Idaho’s Treasure Valley, addressed these issues in a recent YouTube video. Couchman was a paramedic before med school; he was specially trained – and forbidden to wear an N-95 – until certified in its use. He logged many failures before getting that certification – this is typical – and noted that without proper use there is nothing but a false sense of security from wearing the respirator. He and Karlfeldt agreed anyone lacking such training would receive no benefit from the N-95. Surgical quality masks – with three layers of protection – were addressed in multiple studies demonstrating they too offer false security.
Couchman and Karlfeldt assert proper use of the N-95 over long periods forces the wearer to re-breathe his own carbon dioxide – not good for the immune system and compromising for blood oxygenation. Meanwhile, laboratory tests of several grades of masks found exhaled COVID particles, which are small enough to pass through molecular gaps in mask fabric, reached the outside of the mask in large quantities.
The triple-layer masks were found to have more COVID particles on the outermost than on the innermost layer according to Seongman Bae MD, et al in The Annals of Internal Medicine, April 6, 2020. Bae’s South Korean study found the masks created a petri dish-like effect because they provide a pathogen-friendly environment of warmth, moisture, and darkness after usage that actually increases risk to both user and contacts. They retain a pathogen rich moisture from the forced re-breathing of one’s own air supply, inhalation of carbon dioxide, and reduction of oxygen intake. Although N-95s were not part of the study, it stands to reason the better seal of the respirator would further compromise oxygen intake and aggravate rebreathing issues over mere masks.
The Bae study supported similar findings of Dr. Leonie Walker’s 2015 review of the literature; she found no evidence masks are of any serious benefit and strong suspicion they actually make wearers and contacts more susceptible to infection. She cited as just one example The New England Journal of Medicine publication during the H1N1 pandemic by Shine et al – November 5, 2009 – to this effect. Dr. Couchman referred to a study in The British Journal of Medicine indicating issues of moisture retention, re-use of masks, and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Dr. Karlfeldt stated – in light of the oxygenation and re-breathing issues already mentioned – “Prolonged mask wear will compromise your immune system.”
Physicians for Informed Consent recently posted on their Facebook pages, “…Facemasks may not significantly protect from pandemic influenza?
“The primary finding was that regular hand hygiene was significantly protective in protecting from pandemic influenza infection, while facemask use was not significantly protective. The significant protective effect of hand hygiene following contact with infected individuals or contaminated cases, which were found to be comparable to general hand hygiene practices; this supports the position that protective measures both during and immediately following viral exposure will drive intervention effectiveness. While this seems intuitively reasonable, an important implication is that the frequency of performing such maneuvers may need to increase in pandemic situations, where attack rates and viral loads are likely to be higher than during seasonal epidemics”. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28487207/
One has to wonder why – with all the caution-and-warnings available in scientific literature to which doctors and government officials are privy – these experts who warned against mask use two months ago are now threatening the wrath of God and government against people declining their use. One dares hope employers will rethink their policies about requiring employees to wear masks.
And one may echo the title of this post, “Keep wearing those face masks…if you dare.” Or we can ask the God we serve to resurrect common sense and respect for authentic science in the government and people of our land. My money is on the latter.
