  • Disease Prevention: A Case Study of Homeoprophylaxis in India

You may have wondered about the use of homeopathy in the prevention and remediation of disease. This excellent review from the Weston A. Price Foundation does the subject justice. The article can be read in its entirety at Weston A. Price Foundation’s website. It’s an excellent read for education and disease prevention for you and your family!

    Excerpts:

Medical doctors are frustrated! Their hands are tied, and they can no longer practice medicine in the way they originally intended. With the advent of electronic records and innumerable insurance company requirements, doctors’ eyes are glued to the computer screen instead of free to look their patients in the eyes. Pharmaceutical companies have overtaken public media by advertising drugs for every symptom imaginable, drugs that are often accompanied by dire side effects. What happened to “First, do no harm,” and what’s happened to modern medicine?

Actually, one nontoxic and inexpensive form of medicine is alive and well. Homeoprophylaxis, also known as HP, is a safe and effective form of immune education to protect from infectious disease. In countries such as India, where HP is sanctioned by the government, doctors are able to administer HP openly and achieve outstanding results. Homeoprophylaxis costs less than pennies per person due to the fact that very little source material can produce enough HP for thousands, if not millions, of people.

    HOW HOMEOPROPHYLAXIS WORKS
Homeopathic practitioners use HP in the context of both short-term prevention during epidemic disease outbreaks as well as long-term prevention of contagious infectious diseases. Samuel Hahnemann, MD, the founder of homeopathy and the very first to use homeoprophylaxis, viewed epidemics as cases of disease that “attack many people and present with very similar suffering from the same causes.”1 In epidemic situations, homeopaths often apply a principle called genus epidemicus (GE) when the epidemic has a similar and characteristic nature in multiple patients. The GE—a homeopathic medicine individually selected for a particular outbreak of an epidemic2—addresses the common symptoms of the disease.

In the case of scarlet fever (also known as scarlatina), for instance, the common symptoms might include fever, red rash and headache. Hahnemann used HP very successfully during a 1799 epidemic of scarlatina.2,3 Homeopathic Belladonna either prevented the disease altogether or, if contracted, reduced the severity significantly and prevented complications, easing recovery and alleviating any post-epidemic symptoms. Homeopathic Belladonna proved so effective that the King of Prussia mandated its use to curtail or alleviate subsequent outbreaks of scarlet fever.

A second method of achieving prophylaxis is through the use of homeopathic “nosodes” of the targeted disease. Nosodes are made in the same manner as all homeopathic medicines. Beginning with a source material—either plant, animal, mineral or disease itself in the case of nosodes—serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking) is applied until no molecules of the original substance remain. A dilution of 1:99 repeated twelve times results in a solution devoid of any molecules. This is labeled as 12C, referring to the potency. A high potency such as 10M repeats the dilution and succussion process ten thousand times.

    HOMEOPROPHYLAXIS IN INDIA
India has a population of 1.3 billion and is governed under a parliamentary system. There are twenty-nine states and seven union territories. Homeopathy in India is under the control of the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH).4 In addition, the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) functions as an autonomous organization within India’s government.5 The CCRH oversees standardization, clinical research and trials, training of homeopaths and public awareness.

In response to the persistence of infectious disease as a major problem, India has employed HP effectively for cholera, the H1N1 influenza virus (“swine flu”), conjunctivitis, chickenpox and mosquito-borne viral diseases such as Japanese encephalitis, dengue fever and chikungunya. Researchers at the Government Homoeopathic Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram (the capital of the state of Kerala) surveyed families during threatened dengue and chikungunya epidemics from 2003–2006 to assess the protection provided by HP.1 Of one thousand and five families surveyed in 2003, almost nine in ten took HP for prevention of dengue; of those taking HP, only 14 percent (123/869) went on to contract dengue. In a follow-up study in 2006 of the prophylactic efficacy of HP for chikungunya, the college found a comparable 82 percent efficacy.

The state of Kerala also has used HP to great effect in Alappuzha, an area full of backwaters and coconut lagoons. Though beautiful, living conditions in this area are difficult due to poor sanitation, low socioeconomic status, lack of education, limited health awareness and poor infrastructure. Epidemics can take hold and flourish due to inadequate health care facilities. Narrow canals through mangrove swamps are the roadways, so in 2013 the government started a floating homeopathic dispensary.6 This boat provides free treatment, HP and health education. The program has been such a success that two more boats were launched in 2014 and 2015!

As another example of HP’s acceptance in India, in 2016, in direct response to two cases of swine flu in Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India’s Homoeo Times published the following news statement:

The state government has…directed “all the people to take homoeopathy medicines in order to avoid the attack of swine flu.” The medicine is available for free at all dispensaries. The patients who already have swine flu should take homoeopathy medicines under prescription.

  • What California’s Cleaning Product Disclosure Bill Means For You

What California’s Cleaning Product Disclosure Bill Means For You

As many of us know, a lot of the cleaning supplies we use to “clean” our homes are actually “dirty” for our bodies.
According to this post by EWG, a bill was introduced this week by California State Senator Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, that would require all ingredients of household and professional cleaning products made or sold in California to be completely disclosed on the label and online.
Here are EWG’s top takeaways about the bill:

    1. It would give Californians the right to know about potentially harmful ingredients in cleaning products, helping them make informed decisions about the products they use in their homes and businesses. But its effect could reach well beyond California. Because the state’s market is so big, it’s likely that manufacturers would choose to label their products nationally, rather than incur the cost and bother of making one package for California and another for the rest of the U.S.

    2. If passed in its current form, this would be the first state or national law known to require full ingredient disclosures for cleaning products. A federal cleaning products disclosure bill was introduced in Congress last year but didn’t make it out of committee for a full vote. No implemented regulations require manufacturers to completely reveal to consumers or workers what’s in their cleaning products. New York state passed a law, expected to go into effect sometime this year, to increase disclosure of ingredients in cleaning products. But instead of requiring ingredients to be listed on the label, the state will collect some information – the degree of which remains unannounced – in a central, searchable database.

    3. Although some companies are beginning to voluntarily disclose many ingredients,  the bill will unify a patchwork of disclosure initiatives by manufacturers. Some companies, such as Seventh Generation and Dr. Bronner’s are models of transparency. But only about one in seven products EWG reviewed last year fully disclosed ingredients on the company website. Most still used vague terms like “fragrance” or “preservative.”

    4. Manufacturers would not be able to hide ingredients behind “trade secret” claims. Manufacturers have protections to keep “trade secrets,” but these exemptions from disclosure don’t cover simple lists of ingredients. Thanks to modern analytical methods, companies can easily figure out what’s in a competitor’s product. Innovation can continue to flourish in tandem with ingredient disclosure, despite disingenuous industry arguments to the contrary.

    5. Labeling could be a critical first step toward reformulating products to be safer. Some product makers will likely choose to reformulate their products, rather than disclose ingredients and contaminants that raise health concerns. Reformulations prompted in California may also impact products sold throughout the country.

  • FDA quietly bans powerful life-saving intravenous Vitamin C

FDA quietly bans powerful life-saving intravenous Vitamin C

It would be naive to think that the FDA endeavors to protect the public’s health as its primary focus. Indeed, that would be a conflict of interest, as it serves its master, the pharmaceutical industry. Has the Food and Drug Administration engineered a shortage of intravenous vitamin C as part of an overall attack on natural and non-toxic approaches to healing that compete with prescription drugs? An analysis by Natural Blaze would suggest that the answer is yes.

Natural Blaze claims that a critical shortage of IV bags in general followed an FDA ban on the mass production of intravenous vitamin C. The FDA limited the availability of IV-C and the pharmaceutical industry halted production of injectable vitamins and minerals, after a 60 minute story about the miraculous recovery of a swine flu patient on life support. Because of the shortage of IV-C, doctors called upon compounding pharmacies to produce it. But the FDA began to limit compounding pharmacies after injectable steroids produced by the New England Compounding Center were contaminated with a fungus that caused a deadly outbreak of meningitis. Here is an example of an entire industry being punished for the dubious practices of one compounding pharmacy.

Try and follow this convoluted story: Doctors began to source NECC for its more expensive product because cheaper generic versions were in short supply. But it was the FDA’s increased inspection of drug factories that disrupted the supply chain in the first place. So the meningitis deaths were in part caused by the onerous actions of the FDA.

Natural Blaze reports, “… without anyone noticing, and by many indirect means of banning production of the bags or shutting down those doing the production of the bags and the injectable vitamins and minerals, access to IV solutions for innumerable treatments for diseases, have gone into critical shortage.”

Vitamin C and the Big C

Could the shortage of IV-C be part of an effort to limit alternative cancer therapies?

DrWhitaker.com states, “… vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that has the power to boost immune function, increase resistance to infection, and protect against a wide range of diseases. But there’s an entirely different and largely unknown role of vitamin C, and that is its ability—when administered in very high doses by intravenous (IV) infusions—to kill cancer cells. … Best of all—and unlike virtually all conventional chemotherapy drugs that destroy cancer cells—it is selectively toxic. No matter how high the concentration, vitamin C does not harm healthy cells.”

    Dr. Whitaker continues:

“The only way to get blood levels of vitamin C to the concentrations required to kill cancer cells is to administer it intravenously. … For example, 10 g of IV vitamin C raises blood levels 25 times higher than the same dose taken orally, and this increases up to 70-fold as doses get larger.”

    Choose health, choose life

When the human body is challenged by pathogens or needs to heal from injuries or surgery, its requirement for vitamin C increases considerably. If hospitals routinely administered intravenous ascorbic acid, a proven and inexpensive treatment, patient outcomes would improve. When one weighs the risk of infection from deadly superbugs in hospitals today, IV vitamin C as a preventative safeguard makes all the more sense.

To learn how to secure IV-C in advance of a hospital stay for yourself or a family member, check out this very useful advice at DoctorYourself.com. You will learn how to deal with objections from physicians and hospital administrators regarding this “alt-health” remedy. It will require some moxie, but doing so may save a life.

Supporters of Obamacare believe that access to affordable healthcare is the most  important consideration. But of even greater concern should be the ability to choose your own treatment modality, such as IV-C. In other words, medical freedom of choice trumps universal access. Many of us involved in the health freedom movement are outraged by the disregard for our natural rights by unelected federal bureaucracies such as the FDA. We hope for a day when a critical mass of aware citizens will hold their elected officials accountable to overturn toxic policies that favor Big Pharma’s obscene profits over our health and well-being. And that day is long overdue.

  • Centenarians tell us the secret to long life

Centenarians tell us the secret to long life

The secrets to a long and happy life offered by those will will mark their 100th birthday or more this year were as individual as the people providing them.

Heredity, family and remaining active are all qualities that the centenarians said helped them to have a long life. A sense of humor and not worrying were also identified as attributes that contribute to longevity.

Christine Petersen of Butte is 103 and her advice for a happy life, she said, involved friends, children and a happy marriage.

A good marriage is important to her, she said, explaining that yes, she did indeed marry the right man.

She and Herbert married in 1932, she said. She remembers their 50th anniversary but beyond that, she said, too many years have passed to recall.

Petersen was born in Denmark while her mother was there visiting. Her mother died during childbirth, she said, and it wasn’t until she was 8 that she journeyed to the United States where her father was ranching near Bannack, outside of Dillon.

Brief biographies assembled by the state for this event, held at the Red Lion Colonial Inn in Helena, said Petersen arrived with her siblings to join their father.

Petersen’s advice for a long life is to eat healthy food, work hard and have a positive outlook on life.

“Probably 100 other reasons right now I can’t think of,” she said and added, “Make the best of every day.”

Edith Spencer came from Bozeman for the celebration, as she will mark her 100th birthday in August.

“I don’t believe in growing old,” she said. “I just grow. If I get old, that’s an accident.”

“Belief in God and in the next day,” she said of what has allowed her to have a long life. “And God comes first because there might not be another day.”

There was no pause when asked for advice on how to have a happy life.

“Marry the right person,” she said. “I did. Robert Clark Spencer.”

Her biography said they came to Montana in the late 1980s to be closer to their youngest son and his family.

Fritz Weed, who will be 100 by year’s end, said hard work and “behaving yourself once in a while,” were his secrets to having a long life.

“You have to have a little fun now and then,” added the Helena resident who was born in Terry.

He, like Spencer, said marriage can be important in having a happy life.

“I had a beautiful wife for 60 years,” he said.

“It sure was good,” he said.

Ruth Arnold, 103 and from Three Forks, was among the centenarians scattered throughout the audience.

Her German ancestry, she said, contributed to her long life.

Having a happy life, she said, means “having a good attitude and trying to do the right thing. Be kind to other people and respect other people.”

“I’ve found a good word goes a long ways,” Arnold said.

Gov. Steve Bullock, the keynote speaker, singled out several of the centenarians as he spoke and made note of Charles Bennetts, 101, of Fairfield, who rode his horse to school. In Bennetts’ senior year, he rode in minus 50 degree weather to take an exam at the community’s high school.

While noting how the centenarians have been active, Bullock pointed out that being active is the key to success in all of their lives.

To make it to 100 a person needs the right genes, a good dose of determination and the right luck, he said.

  • Mandatory obedience: Hospitals are threatening the jobs of healthcare workers who refuse the flu vaccine

Mandatory obedience: Hospitals are threatening the jobs of healthcare workers who refuse the flu vaccine

Yet another assault on health freedom is reportedly occurring in the state of Georgia in the form of mandatory vaccinations for healthcare professionals.

In a YouTube video, Georgia hospital worker Lauren Atkinson claims that the federal government is forcing healthcare employers in the Peach State to vaccinate all or most of their employees with the influenza, or flu, vaccine. Non-compliant employees apparently face termination if they don’t submit to the flu injection by a certain date, but most workers are going along with it, according to Atkinson, who intends to refuse the flu shot.

Natural News has previously maintained that there really is no good reason to get a flu shot. No legitimate evidence exists proving that they even work at all. But they do contain a variety of toxic additives that can cause severe side effects. In addition to conventional treatment, however, a variety of natural remedies are also worth considering to help ward off the flu bug, although that is a personal decision.

Citing Obamacare as the primary driver of an initiative to vaccinate 90% of all hospital healthcare workers for the flu, Atkinson explains how nurses en masse are complying with this rule, even though they may disagree with the idea of injecting potentially risky and useless chemicals into their bodies, out of fear of being fired. They are afraid to lose their jobs. She points out that of all the vaccines available today, the flu vaccine is the least effective because the flu is a virus that is constantly mutating and changing, therefore, a vaccine for any particular strain is highly unlikely to protect you from the latest mutation,” Waking Times explained.

  • Harmful high fructose corn syrup gets a new name

Harmful high fructose corn syrup gets a new name

Big Food is at it again, fooling us with false advertisements to make us buy food we don’t want to consume. Most of today’s consumers are increasingly health conscious and want to avoid products that contain health-damaging ingredients. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is one of the substances that has made a bad name for itself.

This questionable sweetener which is much cheaper than regular sugar, and extends the shelf life of processed products – has been linked to many health problems such as heart disease, obesity, dementia, diabetes, cancer and liver failure. For this reason, many consumers have begun to check food labels and steer away from foods containing HFCS.

But manufacturers have come up with a sneaky way to fool their customers so that they don’t have to change their money-making ways. Instead of removing this cheap, harmful ingredient, they have just changed its name on packaging to conceal it within their products. FDA decided in 1997 that food companies could review their own products and determine if they were safe or not. This self-regulatory system legally enables food companies to put profits above safety.

Now they succeeded in changing the name of a form of HFCS called HFCS-90 to fructose or fructose syrup. Since fructose makes up the sugar content in fresh fruits, it sounds much healthier than HFCS, however, when we consume fructose in fruits, we consume it along with fiber, enzymes, minerals and vitamins.

The toxic ingredient now called fructose, or fructose syrup, contains even higher concentrations of harmful HFCS, making it more of a health risk than regular HFCS. Regular HFCS (HFCS-42 or HFCS-55) contains either 42 or 55 percent fructose, while HFCS-90 contains 90 percent. Even though multiple scientific studies add to a growing body of evidence that indicates HFCS consumption may result in negative health consequences when compared to natural sugar, high concentrations of HFCS are still allowed in our food chain.

Here are a few other deceptive names of HFCS that you should look out for: maize syrup, glucose syrup, glucose/fructose syrup, tapioca syrup, fruit fructose and crystalline fructose.

  • Kid-Friendly Cough Syrup

    Kid-Friendly Cough Syrup

This Idaho family approved cough syrup is especially helpful with a congestion-related cough.

    The Components

    Lemon Juice

Lemons are good for detoxing the body, in this case from an illness. They are also high in vitamin C, which is immune boosting. It is naturally anti-viral and anti-inflammatory. It’s also good for breaking up mucous that may be on the throat causing the cough.

    Honey

Honey, especially raw honey, is well known for its many benefits. It is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and full of antioxidants. If you’re careful with only slightly heating this and you buy local raw honey it should help even more with an allergy related cough due to honey’s ability to help arm your immune system for dealing with local allergens.

    Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has many amazing properties, but the important ones here are the anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. All these make it perfect for fighting winter colds and viruses. It has even been shown that coconut oil can bolster the immune system by improving white blood cell counts, which directly fights viruses and infections.

Together this syrup fights inflammation, bacteria, and viruses while soothingly coating the throat and breaking up mucous.

    How to Make It

    4 Tablespoons Lemon Juice

    1/3 Cup Honey (Preferably Raw)

    2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

    Pic 1

Place in a small pot and gently heat on a very low temperature, just enough to melt the coconut oil and warm the honey to mix easily.

    Pic 2

For long term, you should store in the refrigerator but I leave it on the counter for a few days when there is illness in the house. Near the stove or warm crock pot (I use mine often for making broth when sick) will keep the coconut oil melted. Otherwise the coconut oil will solidify and you will need to melt it again before administering.

Administer usually 3 times per day one tea spoon for child, and double dose for adults…

    Add-ins

We’ve also added a bit of oregano oil into the syrup when fighting off something pretty bad. Oregano oil is an amazing natural antibiotic. Be sure to use a high quality essential oil for ingestion.

Cayenne pepper or Apple Cider Vinegar can also nicely break up the mucous causing many coughs.

  • Healing power of terpenes found in medical cannabis

Healing power of terpenes found in medical cannabis

(NatuarlHealth365) Have you ever heard of terpenes? You’re about to see why the pharmaceutical industry, mainstream media outlets and conventional medicine would like to see you uneducated about these powerful organic compounds found within medical cannabis.

You see, there is just no way that big pharma medications will ever replicate the complex interactions that occur naturally in plants – even though drug companies keep trying at the expense of patients’ health and pocketbooks! One category of substances, called terpenes, play a major role in the healing power of not only medical cannabis but dozens of other pungent herbs and plants as well.

Exposing the wonderful truth about terpenes

Terpenes are the aromatic components in strong-smelling plants such as citrus, rosemary, frankincense, and especially cannabis. Plants use the pungent odors that terpenes produce to protect them against pathogens like fungus as well as against grazing animals.

Most healing plants like lemon and rosemary contain one or two types of terpene. For instance, lemon (and especially lemon peel) contains the monoterpene limonene, which has been found to slash some cancers by 50 percent.

The high amount of terpenes (especially limonene and pinene) found in the Mediterranean diet is one of the reasons why this way of eating has been recommended by both mainstream organizations like the Mayo Clinic and natural health experts like Dr. Andrew Weil. It is also why a modified low to no-carb version of the diet (with plenty of organic extra virgin olive oil and other healthy fats included) can be ideal for who are healing from or wanting to prevent cancer.

The terpene pinene can be found in pine nuts, oregano and peppers. Basil is a virtual powerhouse of terpene action, including linalool, cineole, eugenol, sabinene, myrcene, and limonene.

The following are just a few research studies that have connected specific terpenes to the healing and prevention of cancer:

Limonene: Since the 1990’s, researchers have found evidence of the cancer-healing properties of limonene, especially on breast, prostate, skin and pancreatic cancers. One of the latest was a 2014 study published in the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry which found 19 novel limonene-based thiosemicarbazones that were extremely effective against ten different cancer cell lines in laboratory tests.

Pinene: Among the several studies confirming pinene’s cancer healing effects was a 2013 study done by Turkish scientists that found that α-pinene had anti-tumor effects on neuroblastoma cells (cancer of the adrenal glands).

Caryophyllene: A 2014 study commissioned by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute in India found that this terpene stimulated apoptosis and tumor suppression in lymphoma as well as in neuroblastoma cells.

Besides its directly protective effects against the “big guns” – cancer and heart disease – terpenes are also anti-fungal and anti-bacteria. And because their molecular structures are so small, they are able to breach the blood-brain barrier. This is why terpene content is the basis for effective aromatherapy protocols.

Sadly, the current health crisis in the United States is caused in large part by the consumption of the “Standard American Diet,” which is severely lacking in terpene-rich foods.

Terpenes are a part of the ‘Entourage Effect’ of medical cannabis

There are over 200 kinds of terpenes in cannabis (depending on strain), some of which give off a distinct odor while others do not. All of them interact with each other and with the over 400 known substances in cannabis, including THC, CBD, esters, lactones, ketones, fatty acids, alcohols, steroids.

These interactions produce what is now known as the “Entourage Effect” of Cannabis Therapy. The term was first coined in the late 1990’s by Israeli scientists S. Ben-Shabat and Raphael Mechoulam of Hebrew University in Jerusalem and refers to how terpenes and cannabinoids in cannabis combine and interact for the treatment of specific disease conditions.

How do terpenes in cannabis trigger the healing response in the body?

One big way is how terpenes help to strengthen and boost the endocannabinoid system, a scientifically-documented system whose job it is to bring balance and homeostasis to virtually every part of the body. This includes the endocrine system, where it helps regulate stress hormones, and the immune system, where endocannabinoid receptors play a part in T-Cell production, among other things.

The use of medical cannabis to help in the healing of everything from pain to cancer is now a reality for thousands of individuals in the increasing number of states where marijuana for medicinal purposes is legal.

If you are considering cannabinoid-based healing modalities for breast cancer (or any other health condition) you need to know about the terpene content in the cannabis-based product you will be taking. This is because studies have shown that the kind of terpene in a particular cannabis strain will have an effect on the way THC reacts in the body (research also continues to show how THC, often in very small amounts, is a vital component of marijuana’s healing effects).

Another reason why terpene knowledge is important is for more targeted use of medical cannabis – especially for the healing of particular kinds of cancers.

Terpenes are vital healing substances found in hundreds of herb and plants. Knowing about the terpene content in not only medical cannabis but also in the other super foods you may be consuming will help you become truly empowered on your journey towards vibrant health.
